That Annoying Person…

Written by: Nick Ortner

Angry Man

As much as we all try to be loving, conscientious people, there’s no getting around a simple fact….sometimes people annoy us. 🙂

It could be someone at work, an intimate partner, someone on the news, etc. Whoever it is, it’s not their “fault” (though we often like to think it is!)

It’s usually our thing, our reaction to a certain situation, behavior or action; but even when we accept responsibility for the way we are feeling, it can be hard to consciously shift away from the feelings.

That’s where tapping comes in beautifully! So here’s a super simple exercise:

Pick that ONE annoying person who has recently annoyed you, for whatever reason, and let’s do some tapping on it.

Before you start tapping, rate your annoyance on a 0-10 scale, 10 being most annoyed. (if you’re not familiar with the tapping process, click here to see a demonstration)

Starting with the karate chop point:

“Even though this person is really annoying me…I deeply and completely accept myself…”

“Even though I’ve been feeling so much frustration towards this person, I deeply and completely accept myself…”

“Even though this person is driving me a little crazy, I choose to release these feelings now…”

Eyebrow: These feelings of annoyance…

Side of Eye: They’re driving me crazy…

Under Eye: Part of me can’t stand this person…

Under Nose: Or what they do…

Under Mouth: It’s so annoying…

Collarbone: And it even makes me a little mad…

Under Arm: I don’t want to feel these feelings…

Top of Head: But I can’t seem to let them go.

Back to the eyebrow…

Eyebrow: If it let go of these feelings…

Side of Eye: Then I’m tolerating this behavior…

Under Eye: And I don’t want to do that!

Under Nose: I want them to stop!

Under Mouth: I want them to stop annoying me…

Collarbone: This annoying behavior…

Under Arm: These annoying feelings…

Back to the top of the head with some positive phrases…

Top of Head: I wonder if I can let them go…

Eyebrow: I wonder if I can forgive this person…

Side of Eye: And release these feelings…

Under Eye: It’s time to let all this go…

Under Nose: It really doesn’t matter…

Under Mouth: And I’m losing out by feeling annoyed…

Collarbone: Releasing these feelings from my body….

Underarm: Letting them go now…

Top of Head: Letting them go now…

Take a deep breath….

And tune in to the feeling of annoyance again, on the 0-10 scale. Where is it now?

What came up specifically for you as you tapped? Keep tapping, either using the same language or bringing in your own language, until you get the relief you desire.

It feels GOOD to let go of these feelings, to release the petty stuff that annoys us and sucks up our life energy.

Be aware of when you’re getting annoyed and do the tapping to release the feeling…

You’ll be glad you did. 🙂

Until next time…

Keep Tapping!

Thank you, this blog came at a perfect time for me, where some “stuff” has happened at work lately and every time I see this person, who happens to be my team leader, my heart races, my body tenses, I feel annoyed about everything about her, even though I try hard to be cordial; unfortunately, its not reciprocated.

one session of this tapping sequel helped, so I will definitely keep using it until I can let the annoyance go,

    Blessings,
    Susan

Someone was annoying me. They were not accepting what I wanted to give. I cursed their stupid pride. Through tapping on my annoyance at “their” stubborness, I came to see I was the controlling one here. It was me who was being annoying. Helped me to see myself. Thank you

Thanks Nick, about to start new term at work, felt anxious, dreading seeing ‘person’ because of what’s been done by person. Was 8, tapped and now a 2, with much more peaceful feelings now. Wish I could find the appropriate words when I try to tap myself, your guidance really helped. Thank you for all you do.

  43. Lyn McA says:

I really need this- I’m not always sure of what words to use- I often try some of my own- I hope as I do they will work- usually there is a difference- I am getting a lot of help from Tapping. I must be doing something right – I have lost 8 lbs over the last 2 weeks- my addiction to food has become almost nonexistent. I keep working with it daily- I’m so very glad I actually stumbled across U on Face Book- I had dropped FB a long time ago- suddenly I decided to return- Always a reason for good things to happen in my life Thank U

  44. Elsie says:

I have been feeling so annoyed with my son in law for a remark he made several weeks ago.he hurt my feelings and I am now avoiding him every day, hard to do as we live on the same section of land, and each day I want to move away from the family as I feel so hurt, so I am going to give this tapping lesson a try, I know I have to let go of the hurt. Can I forgive him, I don’t know, I have to try for the daughters sake and the grandsons. Thanks for the email.

  45. Phylliss says:

I started tapping on the builder of my home and the frustration of working with someone who repeatedly fails to honor her word and refuses to acknowledge her failure. Imagine my surprise when I began to cry about my sadistic older sister, who decades ago, would deceive me and leave me feeling fear, and pain, and especially self loathing for being so utterly stupid, vulnerable, and unlovable. It wasn’t simply frustration toward the builder that had left me so upset; it was the disgust that I felt for my very own self, for allowing myself to be ‘fooled’ yet again.

  46. Anna says:

Really found this quite concrete lesson helpful. THX.

  47. Gunawan says:

    Thank You Nick

  48. Susan says:

This was very helpful, I get so frustrated and angry and I know I’m hurting myself. Good to let

    Thank you!
