Tapping Meditation: Overcoming Resistance to Exercise

    I just came across this meditation. I have created so much distraction and excuse around exercise. I formally exercised religiously. I was passionate about it, I loved it, I enjoyed it. Something shifted. I thought maybe my hormones changed or I just was “over it”.
    Well- it wasn’t until today after tapping on why I suddenly realized why I have been completely disinterested and almost apathetic to it. Eight years ago my best friend died suddenly and traumatically. She was my exercise partner, my motivator, the pull for me to get up and going. We exercised together so often. If we didn’t do an exercise together we talked about our individual exercise that day. I am blown away at what I discovered today. Clearly I can see that after her death I built a wall of excuses and justifications around not exercising but I never thought to get right down to the why. I don’t want to work out because I’m reminded of how deeply I miss her! This is a huge epiphany for me. I didn’t know I was that blocked off. I created 8 years of resistance to exercising thinking it was something wrong with me. That I was just being lazy. That I just settled into this life of feeling bad about not exercising and not actually doing anything about it!
    I will continue to tap on this. To tap through this pain that her death hit me in every way imaginable; including my disinterest in exercising. After tapping- I accept that this has happened to me. I accept this resistance and I completely and deeply love myself.

      That’s such a wonderful insight, Jamie! It’s also a great example of how our emotional connection to others greatly affects so many areas of our lives. While missing your friend is natural, your continued tapping will help eliminate that resistance to exercise. And who knows, maybe you’ll even make a new friend at the gym to partner with. 😉
