Doctor’s Take on Tapping for Chronic Stress

Written by: Nick Ortner

Chronic stress affects every area of our lives.

If you currently have a financial struggle, I know stress is playing a role in it (because I’ve been there).

If you’re trying to lose weight, stress is scientifically proven to cause more weight gain so addressing it is crucial.

If you have a relationship challenge, Tapping on the stress related to it will help significantly.

Whatever you’re looking to improve, addressing the stress around it with Tapping is step #1.

Here’s a video interview that I conducted with my favorite doctor in the world… a guy who I listen to any time I get a chance to hear him speak.

He’s been on the Dr. Oz show, Larry King, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The View, The Katie Couric Show… you name it, and he’s probably been on it.

I’m also lucky enough to say that he’s my personal doctor.

In this interview with Dr. Mark Hyman, he really hits on the importance of removing unnecessary stress from our lives, and how much he loves using Tapping to achieving it.

Beyond chronic stress, here are some of the other things Dr. Hyman discusses in the video:

• How childhood trauma affects our health (He shares a story of a client with whom he was struggling to get results, and who he actually referred to me so that I could work with her using Tapping. The results you’ll hear about are very powerful!)

• A fascinating monkey study that shows the importance of love, meaning and connection with others in our lives

• The importance of both eastern and western medicine and how to know who to see when you’re having a health challenge

And much more!

Hopefully by now you’ve seen just how powerful Tapping can be.

But for today, make sure to watch the above video. 🙂

Until next time…

Take care, and keep Tapping!

Of the several interviews Nick has done and shared recently, this one with Dr. Mark Hyman will probably be most influential in helping lots of folks who haven’t found help elsewhere.

  11. Debby says:

Dear Nick, thank you so much for your generosity and the sharing of your gifts. The story of Paula really touched me. Our son committed suicide last year,, and this trama is so overwhelming. Right afterwards, I lost my job which has put additional stress on me. Programs such as yours are helping me cope with these experiences. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you and EFT. With Love,

Hello. I am a RN and an assistant professor in a local rural university teaching classes on integrative therapy and holistic care to nursing students in St. Paul, MN (at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels). After working as a critical care nurse clinically for over 20 years, I realized that the way medicine is being implemented currently just doesn’t work for chronic illness and a lot of common problems, such as colds and flu. It works great for acute illness, trauma, and infectious diseases, but that’s about it. Plus, there are so many negative side effects from medications, that they end up causing more suffering and distress.

I have been educating myself for years on Eastern philosophy and practices, including herbs, essential oils, energy modalities, etc… I have become certified in Reiki, am working towards a certificate in herbal therapies, and am currently reading everything I can on use of essential oils for health promotion and healing. I am board certified as an advanced holistic nurse (AHN-BC). I teach my students breathing techniques, meditation, imagery, talk a lot about stress management and the impact of stress on the body and the need for daily self-care, energy and energy modalities and essential oils. I agree with everything that you and Dr. Hyman discussed in this interview and am trying to teach this philosophy of integration of Eastern and Western philosophies and modalities to my nursing students.

I will be reading your book on tapping, since I am very interested in learning another tool for stress management. I am already teaching my students the essence of functional medicine (although I don’t call it this), and am interested in learning more about tapping so that I can integrate this into the nursing program curricula as another tool for stress management. If you have any additional sources of information beyond your book that you can share with me so I can develop this content area for my university nursing programs, I would really appreciate any suggestions you can offer. I need to learn enough so that I can actually teach others about this modality. Do you offer any courses for people like me who would like to teach others about this practice?

I would also like to work towards promoting the idea of functional healthcare beyond just my local university level. I am wondering if you would be willing to share Dr. Hyman’s contact information with me so I can contact him to discuss ways I can be involved on a larger level to promote this message of how to promote holistic health. After watching people suffering in critical care units while we provided every aggressive treatment possible to just extend life, I realize that the focus truly needs to be quality of life. And I would like to help people to achieve this.

Thank you for this informative and inspiring message.

Regards, Dr. Karen M. Gutierrez, PhD, MSN, RN, AHN-BC
    Assistant Professor, School of Nursing
    Metropolitan State University
    St. Paul, MN

I have make the commitment to follow Dr. Hyman’s lead on getting and staying well. I use the Tapping Solution….not enough…to focus my find to wellness and get the STUFF out of the way. I have always eaten well, and move my body. I am a retired Massage Therapist, after 30 years and ,counseling clients on stress and good nutrition. My life does better following Dr. Hyman’s information, which I will now return to following crushing stress and Breast Cancer. I feel this is my best plan for a great life. I just love listening to Nick and Dr. Hyman. Sherry Rollings

Hi Nick. Thanks for your generosity making these talks freely available. Stress affects everyone of us and your contribution is changing the world blessings Margie

  18. Christa R. Suggs says:

This was very interesting and really harmonized with what I’ve been learning. I’m new to tapping, but have seen the problems with main stream medical care since my family seems to have a high percentage of “exceptions” – people who don’t have standard reactions and will get most of the side effects. Functional medicine makes good sense. The video also clarified more the role of chronic stress.

  19. Evane says:

Hi Nick, I am doing the tapping on my own, the way I learned from you and I see its tremendous difference in my life! I am able to o things that I wasn’t able to do before. It is as if someone is walking me through things and I don’t feel I am left alone. I feel the difference in my emotions, my work performance, my relationships and etc. Thank you so much. This tapping is really making a difference in my life.

  20. Arlie says:

A very good interview. Dr. Hyman is one of the top Drs. in the country and really gives validation to EFT. I wish I had a Dr. of functional medicine in my area, or an EFT practitioner.

  21. Terri Wilson says:

Excellent information – anxious to hear tapping videos relating to childhood trauma. My 24 yr old daughter is chronically ill for over 2 years now and recently uncovered repressed trauma from childhood rape between the ages of 3 and 7. So anxious to help her clear the trauma.

  22. Adel says:

    Thank you Nick
It is very much so. I do enjoy it very much. I can see results in myself.

Well said Licia, I agree comletely.
Very sad to hear about that experiment with monkeys.

    Thanks Nick!

  26. HelenaG says:

    Hello Nick!

I have recently find out the tapping and I am totally sold. I am just having some starting issues here in the beginning. It is a shame that this hasn´t more “teachers” that it have, since most certantly here´s nobody near where I live. Especially this video made me even more determined that this could really be a way to get my several problems resolved (pretty close to Paula).
Thanx for such good ideas and info! Keep up the good work!!! 🙂

  27. Penny says:

Thank you Nick! I’ve been a believer of alternative medicine for almost 25 years and it is crazy exciting to see it finally receive real respect in our traditional western medicine society. Thank you for getting the news out, the reminder, and for making such a big difference in medicine. I’m inspired and honored to be witnessing this change! Yay for you and yay for our world! :):):)

  28. Lesia Oliveira says:

Thank you for this video , it is a very good information.Thank you for sharing. Lesia

  29. Michaela says:

Thank you Nick for posting this fascinating interview with Dr. Hyman. It was great to hear how optimistic he is in predicting how western medicine will shift in the next 20 years! I have followed Dr. Andrew Weil and his integrative health approach for years. You might consider interviewing him some time as he is very open to energy healing.

I love how you are putting tapping in the mainstream and making a difference in the lives of so many people! Please continue your work as this also supports us in sharing tapping with people in our lives!

Thank you. I’m struggling with type 2 diabetes and have lost faith in my diabetic counselor. I met a doctor that specializes in functional medicine. I saw her a few times but could not afford to continue. I’m in debt up to my eyeballs and haven’t figured a way to pay for her services. The chiropractor she works for (I was seeng for frozen shoulder, which I learned is related to diabetes, he treated me with acupuncture and exercise with great success!) told me I couldn’t afford not to see her. I also see a therapist, belong to a 12 step program and have recently started tapping. Things (emotions) are coming up and I am able to discuss these with my therapist. I take a hand full of Meds plus insulin to help? Depression, cholesterol, menopause, and gerd. Good Lord to see this all print! I’m thinking of using the childhood tapping video. I’m 58 yrs old and scared to death of the results of diabetes.

  31. Amanda Nicholas says:

First thank you Nick for this really interesting and impressive interview with Dr. Hyman.
I am really fascinated with this great information and I really do hope that more and
more doctors will have access to this very important way of thinking about this new
approach to medicine. I certainly hope that this will not be limited only to the United
States, but that doctors all over the world will come in touch with this new philosophy.
    Thank you.

  32. Licia says:

I was listening with joy and interest to this video until I heard that doctor mentioning that ‘fascinating’ monkey experiment and then I switched off. Something in myself broke. I lost the connection with the doctor who was advocating love and in order to do so basically praised animal cruelty. I am a biologist and an epidemiologist myself and whoever did that ‘fascinating’ study I am sure guaranteed him/herself a publication (therefore claiming the academic ladder) but proved that love certainly is much less important than his/her career. Useless and cruel study that deserves not to be mentioned, not with praise at least. We have plenty of human real life examples of children deprived of love. Let’s mention those instead.

  33. Lisa says:

Thank you for sharing…such great information! I just got your book and can’t wait to start reading!!

  34. Kandi says:

Nick, I love the way you interview, giving Dr Hyman plenty of time to tell us his views, discoveries, stories etc. The world needs to know this stuff and it is important for people to have all the information available in order to choose how they want to be treated. Thank you

  35. Hi Nick says:

    Hi Nick,

I’ve been tapping with great results since 2003. I love all the latest info. that you share; I just wish I could view the videos on my Android device!

    Thanks for sharing, Jane

  40. Kathleen says:

Excellent video. I’m very new to tapping, haven’t taken it seriously yet. This video explains concisely how important reducing stress is from a functional perspective and motivates me to put stress reduction and tapping at the top of my last. Thanks to the both of you!

  41. Deb White says:

Fantastic interview! I wish more Doctors thought this way.
    Thank you Nick.

  42. Christa says:

Thank you for the video – it’s refreshing and hopeful to hear that our medical approach is changing, although very slowly – not in my lifetime but to the benefit of our children and grandchildren.

  43. Lucia says:

Nick, it’s gotta be a great feeling knowing you’re a blessing to people. 🙂 I wonder if you might give some guidance about how to proceed, for a newbie at EFT? When I tapped for a smaller problem, it was very successful, but tapping on a major health issue didn’t seem to touch it. Maybe some professional EFT help would get me there, but that won’t be in the budget for a while. So, if there were any one of your materials that I could start with, what would you recommend? Thanks, and God bless!

  44. Anita Schoniger says:

Great video! Thanks for sharing it, Nick. Did anyone ever tell you that you look like the kid who played Herman Munster’s son on the Munsters? I think his name was Eddie. Cute kid. Sorry if that embaresses you, but I meant it as a compliment. Anita

  45. ARDATH says:

Water the root to enjoy the fruit. Blending Eastern and Western medicine… both have value. Thank you, Nick and Mark for sharing this bridge-building information. Namaste

  46. Bill says:

Thanks so much for the video, Nick. It was interesting and provocative to say the least.

  47. Deb says:

I am so glad to hear and see that more western Drs. are coming around to trying natural healing methods. My husband died 20 years ago at the age of 32 from cancer. We elected to go with natural medicine and talk about an uphill battle! Even my family did not believe. Even though he passed away I still believe in the power of natural healing and maybe if we had had the right support system he might be here today. Thank you so much in getting the word out there that when a Dr. says,” here, take this pill and see me next week”, is not the only answer. I think I have always carried the guilt of losing him. Thinking that maybe if I had left it up to the Drs. he may still be alive and then the common sense kicks in and says: no, the Drs. are treating a symptom and not the root cause. It has been a struggle and now that I have found tapping I plan on using it. Thank you again for what you are doing.

  48. Nicola says:

    Brilliant! Thanks for sharing

  50. drew norton says:

i have seen doctor hyman on pbs and i like him! i enjoyed this interview and i can see that there are doctors that are becoming more open to other forms of treatment besides surgery and medication! chronic stress is huge in the US and i don’t believe medication is right for everyone! i also don’t think medication cures chronic stress! it is temporary and their are many side effects with medications!
