Need Self-Compassion Right Now?
- Tap the side of your hand: "Even though I've been so hard on myself, I deeply and completely accept who I am."
- Keep Tapping: "I forgive myself. I was doing the best I could. I am worthy of my own kindness."
- Breathe. Self-love isn't selfish—it's necessary.
Why Self-Criticism Backfires
Research shows that self-criticism activates the threat-defense system in the brain—the same system that responds to external danger. When you criticize yourself, your body produces cortisol and prepares for fight-or-flight. Self-compassion, by contrast, activates the care system—releasing oxytocin and reducing cortisol. Studies show self-compassionate people are actually more resilient after failure.

"I never thought this would be so intense. This meditation made me cry. Not sure if it is normal. But that's how I truly felt and what happened. In only 5 or 6 minutes... Wow."
Tears during self-love Tapping are extremely common—often the first time in years the body is given permission to release decades of self-rejection.
The key for me, what busted open the door so to speak, was when you said 'I forgive myself... I was doing the best I could.' Bam! What a release!

"I feel at peace. Before this Tapping, I didn't realize how much I was critical about myself. As a child I was unjustly treated and manipulated. It is a tremendous relief for me to understand the source of my anxiety."
Viv
"I am practicing accepting myself, having self-love for myself which is hard to do, it feels alien, but I've been working on this for a while and this meditation has really helped."
Grace
"The set up statements allowed me to not feel I was stuffing some positive feeling on top of the negative or pushing down the negative with positive statements. The acknowledgement halfway through of what we often feel—not used to self-love—really helped too."
Rosemarie
"Thank you so much for this Tapping app! It suits my needs and always makes a huge shift in my mood for the better! Tapping literally has saved me from pain and peril."
Why Self-Love Feels Strange at First
If you spent decades practicing self-criticism, self-compassion will feel unfamiliar. But "unfamiliar" is not the same as "wrong." Many people describe self-love as feeling "alien" at first—then transformative once it takes hold.
