A Mother’s Story of Overcoming Fear and Shame

Written by: Nick Ortner

On a daily basis, I get emails with simply stunning stories of people turning their lives around with Tapping.

I personally have to be careful of not taking them for granted since there are so many, and because each and every one of them is a miracle.

Here’s one we had the fortune of documenting in a moving video. It’s a mother’s story of overcoming fear and shame, and how the Tapping World Summit changed everything for her.

Thank you both Nick & Jessica. For sharing your work & yourselves how helpful the tapping method can be. I’ve heard of you both over the last few years although I’ve not utilized very often in the past – so putting this summit together is awesome as helps remind & re-inforce what anyone is capable of. Continue your fascinating work! I’m anxious to learn more!

Thank you so much for sharing. Listening to your story was like listening to my own. I felt so much confusion as to where I needed to start in my healing journey, now I know. I have to go back to the route where it all started. Thank you so much for putting the peaces together for me!

I have been a tapper for many years and believe in its healing powers however my husband of 62 years of marriage died about 10 months ago and I just don’t know how to use tapping to heal this deep deep pain and lose I feel. I wonder if there are any tappers out there who could help me. I’ve never seen the subject come up. Thank you. Betsy bergquist

    • Nick Ortner says:

I’m sorry to hear of your loss, Betsy. Using Tapping for grief and loss is actually a very powerful way of releasing, when it’s time to move forward. I created a video for when my dear friend Louise Hay passed away that you may like to watch. You can check that out here. Big hugs to you!

  9. Patty says:

I love stories of healing! I’m excited to be attending the Tapping Summit as a first timer. My hands have always had incredible energy and I’ve done my own form of tapping but wasn’t aware of this as a healing technique. This could be what I’ve been looking for!

  10. Kerry says:

Hi, this is a very inspiring story. I have ptsd and suffered from depression so this story resonates with me and it is good to hear tapping helped and works fairly quickly. I sometimes go into fear/panic mode and so it is good to know this helps. I meditate and do some energy healing work with someone and want to add tapping to this. Thank you for sharing.

    • Nick Ortner says:

You’re welcome, Kerry. Tapping works wonderfully well for PTSD because in many cases, trauma becomes trapped not only in the mind, but in the physical body as well. That’s why simply talking about a past event isn’t always effective for resolving it. Tapping combines both the emotional and somatic (body) components to encourage the release of these trapped memories and emotions, which is one reason it works so well. 🙂

  12. June says:

Have you or any of your collegues try to reach out to the deaf community?

    • Nick Ortner says:

Hi June! Yes, there are practitioners who are working with groups in the deaf community and finding it very effective, and there may be some who specialize in that as well. I don’t have someone specific to recommend to you but I encourage you to do some searching to see if you can find someone near you! You can even check out our practitioner list to get started. 🙂

  15. Yvonne says:

I suffer from anxiety and depression and nerve pain in my legs . I started to do the tapping not thinking it would help but it do helpI noticed my pain is not so intense my anxiety seems to be better although I am on meds for it I am so great full that I found tapping .

  16. Carolyn says:

I was introduced to tapping with the summit last year my diagnosis has been long term chronic anxiety/ depression which invaded all areas of my life & I have missed out on so much from fear of failure, not good enough, no confidence, damaged goods.
I play competitive sport ( for 9 years) by sheer determination to get myself there after many pit stops in the toilet, crying, phone calls from the car park to my family because I couldn’t walk in & start, couldn’t start because I froze & couldn’t think, represented my state 4 times & total failure to play my best each time BUT I represented my state in October last year with ease & won best player for the series all thanks to tapping.
I have been involved in my personal development & use & love Louise Hay, kinesiology muscle testing, touch for health, Esther Hicks & Abraham, & so happy they all work together with tapping & I know the changes & now other people are seeing a difference in me. I’m coming out of my shell. I really appreciate that you make this free to everyone, thank you so much for your generosity, Carolyn.

  17. Sherry says:

I have an auto immune condition called Psoriasis. It is bad and spreading, can tapping heal that?

  18. Chris says:

I’m so excited to finally became an “official” tribe member.
Many many years back I attended a program at the University of Vancouver (UBC) with Dr. Lee Pulos. At that time it was called Thought Field Therapy and included many more tapping points and checking systems. I found it a bit too cumbersome and over time the diploma and work-books disappeared in a box and collected a layer of dust.
When EFT became more “mainstream” ( thanks to Nick and Jess and their team) I got soooo excited. I have been using tapping now for many years ( still not enough!) and it has made a huge difference in my life.
I’m grateful to now be part of the tapping family!I find it sometimes hard to “get tapping” when the world seemingly is falling on your shoulders. Picking your self up alone (over and over again) is not easy but when I read this comments, I feel I have brothers and sisters everywhere who are going to similar stuff. All of a sudden, I don’t feel like the “lonely rider” anymore.

  19. Torie Walsh says:

Ive joined previous summits a few years ago annd also purchased tapping for weight loss and abd also tapping for finance. I used bith successfully. And then i had a traumatic event happen.
I punished myself, blamed myself and within a short period was diagnosed with PTSD. That was june 2014 now over 2 1/2 years later im starting to use tapping again. This is where my strength lies. This is where i will get true healing.
… Just tonight i used tapping for quite a few hours to help relieve a headache from a virus i am accepting. I got run down and expected perfection and got sick so now im feeling so much better and have clear thinking again.
If it wasnt for tapping quite a few years ago i wouldn’t be here. So now im allowing myself to heal and be strong once again.
    Thankyou.

  20. glenda Hicks says:

Thank you and I am thrilled to become part of THIS community! 🙂

  21. Theresa Scherf says:

During the past couple of years or so I’d begun hearing occasional references to “tapping” as a technique for addressing problems and was somewhat curious, but didn’t think much about it. When I received emails about last year’s Tapping World Summit and began watching the pre-Summit videos, etc., I signed up. Coincidentally (?), shortly before it started I was walking with my horse along the driveway to her pasture one morning when I suddenly felt a twinge accompanied by a sharp pain in the back of my right knee. I continued to experience significant pain in that knee and was completely baffled by what could have happened during a simple walk on fairly level ground. As I listened to one of the early Summit tapping recordings, I realized it was an ideal occasion to see how/if tapping worked in relation to this. I rated my pain at the time at about 7-1/2. When I finished the guided tapping meditation, it was around 1-1/2, and I was both delighted and amazed–as well as very excited as I began to grasp tapping’s potential. A week later I had a knee pain flare-up to a level of around 3, tapped, and the pain subsided to between 1 and 0. It never increased again, eventually decreased to a slight sensation of stiffness that remained for a few months, and then disappeared. (Perhaps I should have, but I didn’t do any further tapping with it.) Since then I’ve listened to the Summit materials and subsequent emails with new material, used some of these situationally with good results, and continued to be profoundly impressed. For me, the single most memorable and moving segment of last year’s Summit was the one Cheryl Richardson (?) did about using tapping with orphaned children traumatized by civil war in Africa and survivors of the Sandy Hook shooting.

  22. Sabine says:

Thank you so much Nick and Jessica for all the good work you do and all those lives you have changed for the better by bringing them tapping. Thank you for your courage! Thank you for your loving “reminder” e-mails to keep on tapping, sometimes I forget when I’m so busy and then can’t get out of that anxiety spiral. We should all have “tap!” tatooed on our foreheads when we look into the mirror while brushing our teeth 😉 xox

  23. Lynn says:

They said when a student is ready the teacher will appear ? This is my story! I am so encouraged! There is hope for me! Thanks for sharing , leading the way for me to find safety and love in all who tap isn’t the universe grand!

  26. Isabel Cuerrier says:

Profound testament to what is possible with tapping. I am happy for her.

  27. Jeanne Ranger says:

This is an amazing story. It is so like my own story of breakthrough and recovery with the EFT Tapping. I learned about EFT nearly ten years ago through Gary Craig’s emofree.com after having spent a small fortune on therapy and counseling, to no avail.
EFT worked so quickly to soften, break down and eliminate my Childhood PTSD it was awesome!
I became a practitioner, advanced practitioner, as well as learning other healing modalities and have been coaching ever since. I tell my people about you and the Tapping Solution so they can know that there is help out there for them.
There is so much pain in the world, we were not intended to struggle like this, I had to do my part, and have been since in my own small way.

  28. Shaeliya says:

You asked if I had attended a summit and if I experienced a miracle. The answer to both is yes. I learned about tapping by attending your summit, and actually purchased the entire series just from watching the pre-show videos because I knew it as “real” almost instantly.

I started practicing tapping, without much visible effect. About a month after the summit, I had an attack of my thigh muscles in one of the most painful Charlie Horses I had experienced. These attacks were unfortunately fairly common, but the one that night was a doozy. It was in the middle of the night, I managed (barely) to get off the bed, and stood there putting weight on the leg (sometimes helped) screaming my head off and tapping so hard that I left bruises on the top of my head, saying to myself over and over how much I loved and approved of myself as I went through every “even though” statement I could think of.

Then, the words popped out of my mouth without previous thought or intention, “Even though my father hated me, I love and approve of myself.” The pain stopped – instantly. Charlie Horses don’t just stop like that. They ease off a little at a time. But, the pain was gone. I was so astonished that I just stood there, afraid to move, afraid to believe it. Finally, I dared to move just a little – it didn’t come back. I carefully laid down on the bed, covered up, relaxed – still no pain. As I lay there in the dark, staring at the ceiling, I asked myself out loud, “My father hated me?”

Since then I have either managed to avoid the Charlie Horse when I felt it coming, or had one begin a little bit, and been able to quickly relax the muscles again by repeating those words while tapping. It has never incapacitated me again.

I am still working on many issues in my life, have not managed to win past a sugar addiction, know very well that gaining weight was my protection against sexual abuse from my father, but haven’t managed to overcome it yet, and go through periods when I stop tapping entirely, but that one miracle has remained.

Thank you for giving me this miracle.

  29. Doris says:

This video is inspiring. I can relate to this woman’s overwhelm and fear because although I did no suffer abuse, I did suffer the results of trauma.
Thankfully, I found a counselor who employs tapping as well as other modalities and I am now free of the weight and limitations of so many of those old fears.
Tapping is a simply amazing tool.
Thank you so much for all you do.

  30. Sandy says:

Thank you for sharing this video, I felt like this woman was telling my story, it was uncanny how much I identified with the fear, shame and experiences. Her courage, strength and commitment are proof how tapping can be life changing and has inspired me to stay strong and persevere and good things will happen. Thank you.

  31. P Perkins says:

Do you have any scripts or videos of tapping specifically for childhood sexual abuse? This woman’s story and her overcoming of the legacy of her past is inspiring. But this is such a wide-spread problem, I believe many people could benefit from a tapping script and video that specifically addresses these issues. I’ve found several tapping videos for PTSD for combat veterans, but very few, if any, for childhood sexual abuse, rape, molestation, and incest. A video for that would be doing a great service to many people. Thank you for your help and for all you do.
