Healing the Critical Voice

This post was published on July 12, 2011 at 10:25 am by Nick Ortner

Oftentimes, we’re more critical of ourselves than other people. Do you ever say things to yourself like?

“I’m not good enough… I’m stupid… I’m unlovable… I don’t work hard enough…”

I know, harsh, but for many of us, this critical voice dominates much of our thinking. You can do something about this, and to help you, we’ve pulled out a powerful presentation from the 2010 Tapping World Summit.

Listen, tap, and silence this critical voice before it does any more damage: (and it does serious damage, so address it now! Also, pay attention in this interview to the brain info- fascinating!)

  4. Nick and Jessica,
Thank you for all the good things you are doing to help people. I just listened to Jessica and Judy Byrne and it was just what I needed today. My critical voice was especially negative today and I now realize that it really is here to help me. The tapping helped release the pent-up emotion that was attached to the critical voice. I feel so much better now.

  6. This was awesome, I am 78 & have been plaqued with a Critical voice all my life(my mother). Talk about upside/downside & results, I became a worrier, which really is ruining my life. The fear that when you remove some thought process(which may keep you on track)what will happen then. My critical voice nags me, so what happens if I don’t get nagged? I can imagine the worst case scenerio for all aspects of my life, what I want is peace so I can go forward & not live in constant stress, uncertainity or fear.

  18. Once again I have revisited the tapping arena! Life can get so harried that I don’t allow enough time for doing this work/discovering/healing. I have all the tapes and translations so I thank you for alerting me to the path I need to travel more. Peace and blessings to you Jessica and Nick (and the Summit contributors).

  19. Lots of useful information in the 45 minute interview. Don’t miss the last 15 minutes which address using EFT on memories before age of 4. Jessica keeps information flowing with her questions. The report on the study of adverse childhood events as correlated to later medical problems has important findings. (ie. time doesn’t heal). Definitely not to be deleted.

    Comment by Marian — July 12, 2011 @ 3:20 pm

  20. I was really enjoying the interview, but for some reason three-quarters of the way through, the tape stopped and although I waited for 15 minutes, it did not resume. Pity!

I am grateful though, for what I DID hear and learn. So powerful! Judy Byrne is obviously a very wise expert in her field. Would love to hear more.

  22. For weeks now the angels urge me to write, but I think I am not good enough to do it. Up to the point that my knees hurt all the time, because I am afraid to go forward in life.
Listening to Jessica and Judy made it so clear to me now. When I was a child, my parents always told me that I wasn’t good enough or that I was dumb. I am really surprised I didn’t make that connection earlier. But it’s never to late and I am very grateful!
    Thanks you guys!!!

  31. This was a great presentation. I too wish it was in PDF format. It’s hard to listen and write at the same time. The biggest challenge for me is to find quiet time to be able to do the tapping. I can see how the negative voices and sad feelings from my childhood have affected me both emotionally and physically. I’m looking forward to learning more. Thank you for sharing these with everyone.

  32. Dear Jessica and Judy: This presentation has really made a difference in my life. The critical voice we all have can be harmful. The negative thoughts interferes with our lives and way of living. This tapping and information gave me the tools to change my way of thinking and I feel very happy. I will continue tapping with positive thinking with all the instructions and information given by Judy. I want to express my gratitude and will keep on to hit the road of success. Thank you so much and blessings to all.

  34. Thank you so much…I just experienced a huge shift while tapping during that interview. I’ve been using EFT for a few years now, but I’d never tapped on the critical voice or the four year old child in that way, and this was an incredible process today. Also, the informative discussion was so clearly expressed and extremely helpful to working with the process. I was riveted from Judy’s opening comment about a thought creating an energy field, and then Jessica and Judy getting straight into the first tapping round was perfect. Just wonderful …huge appreciation to both Judy and Jessica.

  35. Synchronicity! Just last night on my way home I asked the question of myself, Why do I find myself in the same situation again and again no matter how I plan things to turn out to be? I am the common denominator.. The section on the way we filter life going on around us to reflect our inner experience and expectations answered my question completely. I can now tap on these things, my inner belief that I do not belong, and release myself into new expectations and experience. I now know what I am looking for. Thank you so much.

  42. Thank you Jessica and Nick for having given us access to the World Tapping Summit earlier on this year. Thank you Judy for having provided such powerful information. As I listened to Judy I can relate to that critical voice. Even this morning I had a bout with it telling me how unaccomplished I am. The good news is that since I became aware of this modality Tapping has become a part of my daily life and helps me to cope when I’m faced with difficulties.

  43. I so enjoyed and learned from this interview. Judy was so clear in her sharing of this fascinating information. It would be great to somehow make a downloadable mp3 available. Have you thought of this for your interviews? Or an archive where for a monthly fee people can listen to whatever they missed or want to hear again. Repetition is often the key to integration, as we know with tapping itself. Really quite a superior interview.

Thank you, you are an inspiration! After tapping with you and Judy I feel calm and inspired. My critical voice is now my friend, instead of it keeping me frozen in time so I dont move forward and help people the way I know in my heart I should. I really liked that tapping session, keep up the amazing work!

  49. Perfectly great timing & wonderful comprehensive explanations to your questions.
I sense that the ‘tapping’ process working with trauma is like idiopathic activity supporting neurological reprogramming for release of the negative effects of stress/trauma.
Is there any chance of getting more details (date/location/name of exact study done on 17,000 participants re the effects on adults from childhood experiences?

  56. I found tapping on the critical voice with Judy and Jess helped me see something that I sort of thought but never really knew. That my critical voice is mostly my mother nagging and criticising us when we were growing up. And perhaps a teacher here and there. Very helpful to see that in order to see the voice for what it really is… past negative feedback!!

    Comment by Kelly — July 14, 2011 @ 11:21 pm

  57. Thank you for the Judy Byrne’s Critical Voice Tapping. It brought back memories of when mother and older sister ganged up on me and my world came tumbling down. Judy is so knowledgeble and professional. I, also, would like a transcript of that interview. So far, daily trauma tapping has helped me immensely. What I need is a tapping partner, but no one around here is interested. I may go into animal tapping as it has certainly helped my sick cat, and I am working on a puppy which needs some calming down. Thank you again for being so helpful.

  69. I loved this interview! It really helped me clear up some of the unknowns regarding the critical voice. For example that the critical voice’s “intention” is to be helpful and protective. It’s intentions are good but it’s methods are counterproductive but we can “thank it” for it’s intention and ask it to help us in a different way.
I also loved just jumping right in and doing the tapping…. thank you…. it came at the right time…

  70. Tapping is an amazing healing tool. Nick and Jessica are changing the world with their inspiring interviews with notable experts. Judy Bryne’s vast knowledge of the mind — the conscious and the unconscious — opens new doors for me so that I can understand the’ hows and whys’ of the Critical Voice and what I can do to make positive changes in my own life, and hopefully the lives of those around me.

Although I was never abused or abandoned, I realized soon enough that I had not been wanted and actually disliked by an older sibling. There were several hurtful experiences that needed tapping away. Thank you so much. It would help to have a transcript of this interview. Thanks.

  76. This really helped me to stop resisting and trying to shut my critical voice up and allowed me to settle into feeling a more relaxed sense of acceptance and shifting the way I view that voice from wanting to kill it and being frustrated, to, in only a few minutes, a totally different and much more pleasing attitude and feeling. I feel much better already. Thankyou so much.
