Thanksgiving Gripes…

Written by: Nick Ortner

Oh…you wanted some juicy gossip didn’t you? Did you really think I’d air any gripes out to half a million people… haha! But seriously, I am BEYOND lucky when it comes to my family. I’m well aware of how extraordinary they are, how well we get along, how much fun we have together. Yeah, I’m bragging a little about it, cause they’re just great. Even my in-laws, traditionally a source of strife in our society, are fantastic.

And of course, we have our hiccups, usually around trying to plan where we are going, how much time we’re spending in each place, and so forth, but overall, I am so grateful, especially this Thanksgiving, for all of them.

OK, I don’t mean to gloat too much, because I FULLY understand that many, many people out there aren’t as lucky as I am when it comes to family.

I know family can be such a trigger, such a source for angst, but this Thanksgiving, perhaps start seeing your family as an opportunity to heal something deep within you.

Who haven’t you forgiven?

What resentment are you holding on to?

Who haven’t you opened your heart to? Loved…whether they “deserve” it or not?

What mistake have you made that you haven’t acknowledged? Apologized for? (Even if they made a mistake as well…and they haven’t apologized…you can do it, go first!)

What gripes are you bringing to the table this Thanksgiving? Can you let them go before the turkey hits the table?

Tapping is a simple and powerful way to let go of these events. It can be as easy as thinking of past Thanksgiving, thinking of past events, tension and strife, and tapping through the points to relieve the “charge” behind what happened.

Even if it’s just ONE thing, small or big, one little “gripe” that you let go of before Thanksgiving starts.

Now is your chance.

Heal. Forgive. Understand. Accept. Acknowledge. Let Go…

And of course…when you’ve cleared out some of the pain and heartache, in rushes a new feeling… of GRATITUDE. Feel the gratitude for experiences and lessons learned. For people doing the best they could with the resources they had. For where you are now, all the good in your life, all the good in the world.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Are you looking forward to Thanksgiving or stressed out about it? What can you let go of and heal?

These reminders are so important. Sometimes we forget that we are holding a resentment, or giving others free rent in our head. You are blessing a lot of people when you continue to send out these suggestions and helps. I got a kick out of the introduction. I said, “I can’t believe he is going to gossip.” And sure enough, you weren’t! The pictures are great!

I thought it was going to perhaps be a joke, but it was even better than that! Thanks for sharing the love for your family.

Super great reminder for this day especially as all kinds of memories get triggered. Good for every day and every time we can remember to take care of what is ‘not working’ in our lives. Thank you for making it clear, compelling and interesting.

I believe in tapping and it has worked very very well for me, but my husband wasn’t such a believer until this last week. He has “suffered” from seasonal hayfever for 10 years and it kicked in again lately (it’s spring/summer here in New Zealand). With some gentle nudging from me and encouragement he let go of the “fight against hayfever, pollen and sneezing” acknowledged that without pollen we would have no food, flowers and plants, and proceeded to do tapping with the help of a script he found on this site. Results: for the last 3 days he has no sneezing, blocked nose and running eyes etc, and found the courage to cease taking the medications. He is now a believer and I am so grateful and can’t thank you enough for your work and words of wisdom.

Hi Nick. My Gripe is that people give thanks to God by Killing His/Her Animals and Eating them. Regards Pearl.

I think it was Ram Dass who said something to the effect of ‘If you think you are enlightened, spend a little time with your family’. Thanks for sharing how well your family works together Nick, that’s beautiful, and certainly how it ought to be!

Thank you, Nick, great idea! Last year, thanks to tapping I was able to release decades of resentment and hurt I had with my brothers. I will now move up to releasing any grudges against my sister-in-law and niece before the turkey hits the table! I am very grateful for your work. God bless you and your wonderful family. Vaya con Dios 🙂

Thank you Nick for this e-mail, it is a big help to be reminded about Forgiveness and Gratitud.

  13. Lori says:

Your right I do need to forgive and I am holding onto things and yes I am using the holidays as a way to try to make a point with my family. There are just so many expectations about how it should be and no willingness to let go and do it different. It has been years of blowups and fights and hurt feelings and no ownership on their part. Ya I’ve done some but then that was used in righteous way against me. I feel like I have tried in vain-I’ve given them what they wanted as for a little respect and got kicked in the teeth. So this year I just didn’t do anything at all. No calls, no planning and trying to include anyone or work anything out and I got the same in return which is kinda OK but I’m having a hard time with that they aren’t even willing to do anything on their part. So this year I’m just sad – really sad and disappointed in them -my focus has been to stop the nasty story that I usually let run wild in my head and I’m doing pretty good. At least no migraines and I haven’t been sick in bed for 2 or 3 days because of the stress from it.

Thank you for re-introducing the accupressure points through Tapping. I am blessed to have found this loving retirement home. Our large family will be down to three this year for Thanksgiving. May yours be full of happiness health and love.

Thank you for reminder. Resentment is big issue. I should use plural. In fact. Still looking for ways to tap it away and actually feel the impact.
Also forgiveness. It is so easy to say “I forgive” it but do it and feel it within is an other story. It is so esotheric that tapping on it proves to be hard to asses. Maybe the key is to be really specific. Rather then dealing with it in some broad terms. It would take me life time.(-:

  21. Jane says:

Thank you for the words of wisdom. Again and again I find the power of tapping most recently to clear some bitter resentments that I have carried with me for years. These feeling lessen with each session. And my physical issues have diminished remarkably.

I enjoy seeing your family pictures too! If ever you need another ‘aunt’ in your family I’m your go to lady.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Hi Jessica!!!
