Autoimmune Disorders

Is There a Link Between Autoimmunity and Personality Traits?

Written by: Nick Ortner

I just read a GREAT article that explores the idea that common personality traits could be linked to autoimmune disorders.

Besides the listing of the 15 traits (check to see which ones you match up with), I really appreciated the 3 disclosures because they address the pushback that some people might have to this concept.

If you’re struggling with any sort of autoimmune disorder (or really any health challenge), I think you’ll appreciate this read:

My Autoimmunity + Personality Theory: Could Common Personality Traits Be Linked to Autoimmunity?

After you read it, comment below and let me know if you agree with the blog’s premise. One of the things that I think is SO important to remember when linking stress, emotions, or our personalities to ANY sort of disease, is to acknowledge that they are only contributing factors. It doesn’t mean having “this” trait equals “this” disease.

It means that having this trait + this genetic predisposition + these lifestyle choices = might potentially acquire this disease.

We try to make things black and white and it doesn’t serve us, because then we just try to fix or address one aspect of the challenge.

So whatever you’re struggling with today, just think about it in terms of, “What are the various factors that might be contributing to this current state of being, and what can I do to start to change them?”

When it comes to autoimmune challenges, we’ve seen incredible results over the past year with our “Tapping Solution for Autoimmune Disorders” program.

If this is something you’re struggling with, I highly suggest you check it out asap.

Until next time…

Keep Tapping!

Nick Ortner

    hello Nick,
thanx for your kind reply and I agree to 100% but helas a lot of peeps aren’t even aware about their options and it is still meant”popp a pill and all is well” People are often afraid to go against so called: authorities and docs are indeed for those”authorities” but by lack of knowledge a lot won’t go for their needs nor own health concerns… this is one of the biggest problems here in Europe especially in Switzerland. At the other hand it is still “believed” that docs and medical treatments should help people out of their miseries… and nobody seems to be able to see true culprits for their sicknesses but also that exactly this corrupt medical system isn’t even interested in helping anybody out of… but merely “into miseries” So money can be obtained by insurances and those go for refinancing themselfs and the circle vicieu is beginning again… We all need to become more and more aware that all this is nothing but a huge business and no-one of those is interested in anything else then generating money upon the backs of others… that’s all even it seems of no interest that they do harm and poison human beings and so on… If we, the ND’s would claim all those do we’ll be taken infront of court… it is amazing how things and realities were…are distored about : healing modalities!!!
Inee wth a bit of knowledge we can reach far more then expected… using the tapping solution means deblocking meriians and letting go at the same time psychologicals blockings as well and all this is functioning without any pill… isn’t that amazing ?!? The gift we can offer to ourselfs: become aware… be ready for experiences and take full responsibilities for your body-mind-soul-connection in feeding em with the right stuffs and treating em with the adequate natural options like “the tapping solution” for example… 🙂 It is sooo easy but we’ve to do it …
All the best and have a fine day greetings to all from Isa

Yes I have MS and I can relate to almost all of them!!!! I’ve been tapping now for about 9 months. My Life is slowly but surely changing…I started with Nick’s books then I bought ´the autoimmune program ´(fantastic btw) then the App, the 2019 Tapping Summit, wich gave me acces to the TIC ( pricless ) and I believed
that Jessica’s book would help me with body confidence, I just started to read….. now I think I will buy Nick’s book on pain relief …. Wow! That was long…. but anyway THANK YOU for all the ressources you put Outhere
    So soooo grateful
    LOVE YOU ALL

Thanks for sharing, never enough talking about be more conscious.I saw a test many years ago with babies being left alone in a room, and almost half of them was ok about that, continuing to play by themselves, but the rest was very anxious to be left alone. So I ‘ve been thinking since that is more than beliefs or traits(but still true).Maybe the relationship mother not embracing the new being, not “seeing”,not looking to the baby really…that’s so scaring when you tottally depend on the other! Any tapping to this? Thanks.

    • Nick Ortner says:

Thanks for sharing, Josely. I think most people had some issues from their childhood that have still stuck with them into adulthood. Any tapping to clear those beliefs, events, and emotions is great to use. 🙂

    dearest Nick,
not that bad as a sort of input all about persoanlties and sickness correlations and yep i also saw it with other sicknesses not only in peeps with autoimmun disorders… Dr.Peter D’Adamo- co-founder of BTD and GTD in USA points correctly out that often so called “non-secretors” can be prone to such sicknesses it is meant an overactive immune system. btw he also explains how all the blood types correspond to their personalities since a long time and as also Louise Hay did mention…all correlates 😉 Therefore no wonder that all interacts and is also beautifully described in “wisdom of the enneagram” from R.Riso& Russ Hudson….:-)
The tragedy also is that a lot is created by false treatments of allopathic medication and nobody seems to be concerned nor cares about this very situation. We all agree if we aren’t touched by ourselfs here and then keep going as usual… a huge shift here has to be done soon coz it is not bearable that we claim all about health costs but not change in views by ourselfs in our own comportements!!!
Lissa Rankin is one of the bst in describing in her book : mind over medicine and yup even in our all days sistuation we can overcome a lot of things mentally… Sadhguru always points out: just a thought and the whole machine begins to work in a different way… and so it is!!! I guess we all need to come back to less sophisticatet life styles- good foods without chemical bombes in and a much better interaction way in our communications between all of us… especially in Europe!!!
Btw I use also the tapping solution in my own praxis- I explain to all who wants to know and even not 😉 and it works amazingly…congrats to you to have found out how meridians can help us to let go frozen feelings-psyche patterns and even to loose weight of da finest… it is def. much easier when we become more and more aware about our own capacities!
Thanx a lot of being such a good teacher to us all
    Hugs from Isa

Thanks for sharing, Isa! I totally agree that have more power to heal ourselves than most of us give credit to our bodies for. I think a lot of people are coming to realize that prescription medications aren’t the best answer, so keep sharing your love of Tapping! The more people know of this alternate way of healing themselves, the more options they will have. 🙂

  6. Tracey says:

Yes I agree totally with the whole blog.
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia – and that list is soooo me!

Now in my late 30s I’m trying to understand and love me. I’m learning that just because I can’t do something perfectly, doesn’t mean that nobody can love me. And doesn’t mean that I’m a total falure at everything.

I’d like to post some quotes here which are helping me sort my head out.

“anything worth doing is worth failing at first”
it is how you deal with it that determines who you are, not the failure itself.
“for those who believe; no words are necessary. For those to don’t believe; no words are enough”

Now although that line may be a spiritual quote I also take it to mean myself – For those who believe in ME no explanations or excuses are necessary because they’ll love me anyway. For those who don’t believe in me, nothing will be enough. …then I add…’and as it is the ones who believe, are the ones who matter, I am free.

I need to keep reminding myself this though hehe.

  7. Jayne McAndrews says:

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I could relate to most of the list, but some seem to overlap. My perfectionism (#1) is more inward and presents as unforgiveness toward myself. I’m very hard on myself (#7 & 9) but not others (personal or professional). Tapping is very helpful.

I believe I am sensitive in that I can usually read the vibe of a person or people in a room but not so sensitive that I get my feelings hurt easily.

Lastly, going back to unforgiving of myself…I do tend to hold on to things and not let go easily. Again, Tapping helps tremendously with this, but it can crop up as new stuff surfaces.

  8. Shelly Gerwuen says:

This makes so much sense, since autoimmune disorders are due to the body attacking itself. Whether you attack yourself by being very critical of yourself, or you constantly feel attacked by others, I think it only makes sense that it would manifest in the body as autoimmune

  9. Ann Menzies-Blythe says:

What an interesting line of thought ..thankyou.

I have had psoriasis for a long time. I am a spiritual life coach , Have an immense belief in our energy field so I work with the Diamond modality to balance and maintain our energies in a balanced and caliibrated state , through guided Diamond meditations, Diamond Reiki, Diamond Alignments ,both a a distance and 1:1. Th reason I facilitate these for others is because I truly believe in the Wounded healer philosopy, heal yourself and the and only the may you heal others. As an empath , I was told by a spiritually inclined homeopath that , she was sure that because the skin, which is the barrier between the outer world and inner is that the impact of the outer world was felt by high sensitivity souls, more keenly ..thus the system was reacting more keenly to both external and internal vibes, negativity,as well as our own? Thus a high alert Autoimmune system!! Kind regards and blessings Ann

Thanks for featuring my article, Nick! I’m glad you enjoyed it and found some resonance with it. I absolutely think the Tapping Solution is great for releasing pent-up trauma that likely contributes to autoimmunity (and other chronic conditions). I’ll have to check your program out, too. 🙂

    • Nick Ortner says:

Hi Mitch. Thank you for commenting! We loved your article and we are happy to see that it is resonating with so many people. Thank you for sharing! We would love to have you check out the program. We will email you some more information soon. Wishing you all the best! 🙂

  11. Vikki says:

I totally agree with the blog post. I have almost all of the 15 characteristics.

  12. Ann says:

Yes, I agree with you. We probably all have some of those traits.
How to overcome some of the abuse that others drop on us would be helpful.

I also do a form of healing called reiki and tapping.
    Reikilite to you all.

A very interesting article! And paired with so many other bits of wisdom from here, there and everywhere, helps us dissect and discern who it is that lives inside this beautiful, wondrous body we call home. We are fortunate to have so many resources to help guide us on this journey of life, and it’s important that we remember that ALL this information, knowledge and wisdom must be taken in, digested, turned around, and passed through our gut/intuition monitor to help us figure out which path on the yellow brick road leads to our home……so, let the games begin, step onto the longest road and let your heart, and soul guide you. And, tapping is a great tool to pack on this journey of life. blessings…..

  14. Jenny says:

I have Celiac Disease that was undiagnosed for the first 4 decades of my life, though I was symptomatic for at least 3 of them. I also have nearly all of the 15 traits described in the article. As I age, I’m experiencing allergic reactions to more medicines, cleaners & chemicals than I can count, as well…including many I’ve used “safely” for years. That isn’t how allergic reactions typically evolve, so I tend to think there’s a significant psychosomatic element involved.
Personally, I believe that those of us with autoimmune disorders are in part simply providing some very old school healing. We’re taking the energy of other people’s crap into our bodies to transmute the energy for them. Not so healthy for us in the long term.
Based on the people I know with autoimmune issues, it was multiple individual or ongoing, repetitive traumas we experienced, not a single traumatic incident.
At the core, it seems to all begin with the belief that we “aren’t good enough”.
As an aside, I recently purchased Louise Hay’s Affirmations Coloring Book. When I opened it to look at the images, the first page I saw displayed “My thoughts support & strengthen my immune system”.

  15. Andie B says:

Thanks for posting this link, Nick. Having used EFT to heal from a fibromyalgia diagnosis 10 years ago, I’ve been fascinated by exactly this topic for ages. The work of Rue Hass and Cheryl Richardson, linking HSPs to chronic conditions has been really useful, as has all the Tapping Solution material (going back to the ‘Try It On Everything’ movie – told you it’s been a while!!) Before I opened the link I made my own list and had a correlation with 8 out of 15 traits. This is bang on! The only thing I would add is a lack of self-care, constantly attending to others’ needs first, which is kind of covered by some of the others but not quite. Without a doubt the other traits are factors is which dis-ease the body manifests…but all can be reframed and celebrated with EFT. There is hope for improvement and recovery – just keep tapping! <3

  16. Rebecca Becky says:

There are some that resonate but inconclusive is my belief. I just approach my osteo-arthritis auto-immune, leaky gut, IBS etc health concerns with aging process trying to halt aches pains with alternative holistic methods, nutrition, exercise according to my capacity, reduce & remove stress, utilise sun’s vitamin D on safe UVA hours, fresh air, nutrition healthy eating etc in tandem with traditional conventional medicine mentainance Rx.

  17. Sim Garner says:

I think nearly everyone would have to say yes to half or more of the stated traits because like with most things we aren’t eithier one or the other but a combination of both. For instance take type A and B personalities, nearly everyone can see some traits in themselves from both and the same is true of these 15 characteristics.
