I live in Newtown, CT… (some thoughts and how you can help)

Written by: Nick Ortner

I never thought in my communication with you that the fact that I live in Newtown, CT would be relevant in any way.

Unfortunately, as you know, that all changed on Friday. My brother lives here as well, with his wife and two young children. My mother is a school psychologist in the neighboring town of Danbury, at the elementary school. She used to work with Dawn Hochsprung, the principal who lost her life, when Dawn was previously working in her school district.

I don’t feel it’s my place, especially at this point, to try to make any sense of what has happened or make any wise philosophical pronouncements (they seem trite in the wake of such awful tragedy) All I can think to do is to mobilize in any way I can, to help those most deeply affected.

I do think there is an opportunity (and that’s not the right word for this situation, but it’s the best I can come up with), to take a new approach in helping relieve the pain, trauma, and sorrow this town, surrounding towns, and the world at large is feeling. We’ll be working this week to bring you resources to help relieve any pain you’re feeling, including a meditation from Jessica.

On the ground here, I’ve been on the phone the last two days coming up with a plan on how we can best help and serve. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as going in there and saying, “Everybody tap!” It’s a delicate situation on so many levels, so I’ve been talking to trauma experts and other people with experience to see how we can best serve, while respecting the existing channels of support.

Just this morning we formed what we’re calling “The Tapping Solution for Newtown: Stress and Trauma Relief Project.” Dr. Lori Leyden, who you might recognize from her incredible work with genocide victims in Rwanda, has already agreed to fly in from California to lead the support team. That team and its approach will grow in the coming days.

Our intent behind “The Tapping Solution for Newtown: Stress and Trauma Relief Project” is to:

A. When appropriate, work with those affected, directly or indirectly, in Newtown and the surrounding areas.

B. Establish a “train the trainer” model, where both professionals and lay people can learn how to use tapping for themselves and for others.

C. Create new approaches and protocols that can be used here and then modeled in other similar circumstances.

As you can imagine, such an effort will cost money. From flying people in, to housing them, feeding them, perhaps advertising to spread the word on the support available, and so forth. To that effect, all this week we’re raising money to support these efforts. I got together with my sister, Jessica, who many of you know, and my brother Alex, who works behind the scenes running things at the Tapping Solution, and we’ve each agreed to donate $10,000 to support this work. So we’re off to a good start with $30,000 being raised to help.

Now’s where you come in!

We’d love to have your support in raising money for this very important cause.  If you donate $15 today you’ll get a copy of our film “The Tapping Solution” as a special thank you gift.

If you’ve never heard of the film, you can see the trailer below.  Furthermore, while I personally plan to work with people here, none of the funds raised will go to me in any way, shape or form.  I’m laying this out in so much detail because it’s important for people to know what’s happening exactly.  100% of the net proceeds (after credit card fees and shipping and handling) will go to helping the people of Newtown.

Our fulfillment company, a Connecticut based company called Fulfillment Works, LLC, has agreed to donate their time on this project so additionally some of the shipping cost will go to the project as well!

Please support us by clicking on the “Contribute” button below to donate $15 (or use the blue links below to contribute additional funds)

“Based on my clinical experience and my reading of the research literature, EFT is the treatment of choice for rapid intervention in traumatic situations like Newtown that trigger overwhelming emotions in individuals and groups. Its use can prevent the future development of full-blown PTSD by empowering people to develop control over their own nervous systems.”

How you can help Newtown and your own community…

Also, if you happen to already own a copy of The Tapping Solution, and donate and get more, it would be wonderful if you can share it within your local community. Perhaps pass it along to a person in need, a psychologist you know, or a church, or a library that needs it. Who knows what your action to spread this positive message might do to change the future.

If you want to personally get involved in Newtown, CT…

I know many people are interested in how they can personally be of help in this situation and these efforts. If you have experience with EFT and trauma relief, or other associated projects, please contact us at Newtown@thetappingsolution.com. Please be as descriptive as possible with what you’ve done, your qualifications and how you can help, so we can organize accordingly. One of the challenges in times like these is that so many people do want to help, but we need to do it in an organized manner that best serves the population.

Also, if you are from the local area and know people in official channels, such as the Red Cross, etc., who you think might be open to learning about using EFT within their work, please let us know that as well. Again, email us at Newtown@thetappingsolution.com.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and doing whatever is the right fit for you in terms of donating and supporting this important effort.

Much love to you and your loved ones.

Nick

Thank you for your initative. This is great. It shows the people that they are not alone with their grief and it helps them to cope. This is very generous and caring.
    Best wishes with your work.

  2. Gord Wiles says:

I never know what to donate to as there are so many scams out there. All people want is for there donations to go the people and places it was meant for. There are so many extra expenses that they are paying for and not aware of. Nick Ortner and his family seem sincere in what they are trying to accomplice and so they have my donation.
    Peace

  3. Diane Marie says:

What an amazing synchronicity that you live there!
THANKS so much for providing the rest of the world an opportunity to contribute in this healing endeavor as well as with sending our love and prayers.Tapping is amazing and has helped me with grief and pain. After seeing the video of Gary helping Vietnam vets get over their trauma of daily hell I knew I needed to learn this. I think a link to the video of the children in Uganda doing tapping to get over the trauma of their families being killedwould be clarifying of the work.
Also, you might want to get some flower essences for trauma. The Flower Essence Society( F.E.S.)has PSTD for trauma relief and Grief Relief and Magenta Healer These were shipped and used during the aftermath of 9/11 for the firefighters families as well as ground zero workers. They have been used for the health workers during the genicide in Africa as well as for children and families in the Tahiti and Chinese earthquakes

Much love to you and your family.

  4. Dana Russell, Energy Healer says:

I am so RELIEVED to know that you generous Ortners are bringing EFT to Newtown, and kudos to you for doing it in such a professional, controlled way. I offer to those of us who practice EFT in other states, or countries, “How about using this time as an opportunity to motivate ourselves to do EFT outreach in our own communities?” There are so many people in pain who would benefit. I may not be able to serve in Newtown, but I can in Asheville. Blessings to all.

  5. Mark Naseck says:

This is truly amazing. Very awesome to see you folks taking action to help with the trauma there.
I will pass your message on.

    Many blessings,
    Mark

    Hi,
My first thought when I heard the news of this tragedy was “some major healing has to take place on these little ones and the entire community. You guys are awesome. It would be great if people can make a monetary donation aside from purchasing products – already own the film. Just a suggestion. Thanks!
    Danielle

  7. Mary Ann Purnell says:

Thank you Nick, Jessica and Alex for doing this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the community.

  8. Mike Morales says:

    Nick, Alex and Jessica…

Perhaps the surrogate tapping with teddy bears would also be appropriate here?

    Just a thought.

    God bless your efforts.

  9. Inge Struck Jorgensen, Denmark says:

I´m very greatful for the posssibility of being part of the healing. Thank you Jessica and Nick

  10. Hymie says:

Found article very moving, very compassionate. Have been deeply touched by this event. Have prayed for all those touched by this great mystery. Great to see that something positive is already starting to blossom. In my native land(Ireland) there is an expression, “God never closes a door without opening a window”.Regard it as a privilege to offer to help in such an enterprise.

  11. Vasiliy says:

Our prayers goes to the families of Newtown CT.
I really hope EFT could help those families!

  12. Betty Crocitto says:

I agree with CJ from Ontario, Canada about the 4th option of making a surrogate tapping DVD. I would love to give my energy to this cause. I and I am sure others are feeling so powerless around this situation. I am
contributing with the video on tapping but would like to do more.
    Betty

  13. Jan Yordy says:

A big Thank You to Nick and his family for being ready to organize and bring much needed healing to so many who are devasted by this tragic event at Sandy Hill. My heartfelt prayers go out to everyone who has been touched by this incomprehensible act.

  14. Carol Flato says:

It warms my heart so much to know that someone will step up and
offer to help in this most heartfelt and practical way. So much suffering.
So sorry but also seeing the blessing in bringing love and compassion full
circle. How mysterious this process works…suffering then acts of immense
altruism. which let us know how united we are in wanting love and peace to prevail.
Thank you Nick.. I ordered the tape and will use it even if it’s not in Newtown, CT.

  15. CJ says:

Hi Nick and Jessica, I think this is a wonderful approach yet I feel there is a fourth option. I own the dvd and think it would be great to have the option to donate any amount in the effort to help these horribly traumatized families.
I also feel that many of us could join in surrogate tapping to help everyone involved in this tragedy. Perhaps you could make a video for surrogate tapping that is specific to this trauma and we could get together each day at a given time to help from afar.
So much love and blessings of relief are being sent your way, CJ Ontario, Canada.

  16. Jenny says:

Are these closed captioned or subtitled? Thanks. 🙂 And I *am* sorry you are all dealing with this in your geographic area.

  17. Ann Kapsch says:

I will be contributing without buying a product for me. I know the fire department has a site where contributions can go directly to serving those in need for any help towards healing. This is a tragedy but it is also a wake up call to do for others. Thank you.

  18. Linda Graham says:

Tapping was the first thing I thought of after the initial shock of Friday’s shootings. Many people think PTSD only happens to soldiers. Wrong. Combining the Tapping, along with some matrix re-imprinting techniques will change the world as we know it. Isn’t that what is promised for Dec. 21st? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the new world, after Dec.21, would include an easy, inexpensive, quickly mastered way to help those grieving and those who know someone with a mental issue that they fear might be a next shooter? Congrats on your efforts. Remember that remote tapping works as well, so all can help, even without flying to Connecticut.

  19. Kaya Bromley says:

    Thank you for doing this!

  20. Catherine Ewing says:

  22. Julia says:

    Hi Nick,
When I opened your email concerning the terrible events there and learned you are from Newtown,I just had to respond. Not only does my heart go out to you and all the people there- it hits close to home for me as well, because I was raised in Redding. With all the people in need,I am thinking: What a wonderful thing you are doing and what a small world we live in !
    Love & Blessings,
    Julia

  23. Alison says:

Nick, I’m so glad you gave us this opportunity to help!

  24. Von says:

You really have to experience EFT to appreciate just how powerful it is! I was surprised. ‘Stuff’ that I’d tried to deal with for years seemed to simply evaporate with EFT and Matrix Reimprinting …and seemingly permanently! I’m still enjoying the benefits of the EFT sessions I’ve done; still smiling every time I accomplish something I would previously have found nigh on impossible – it’s amazing.

  25. Mark McCoid says:

Thanks for all you guys do, it is truly inspirational!

I already have the tapping solution and have given copies to my family members. I would just like to donate money, don’t want anything in return.

Maybe you could set up a paypal donate button too or an option to just donate the copy to an individual in need.

  26. Barbara says:

Thank you, with Love and support, and Many Blessings

  27. Peggy Mangan says:

Bless you for your unconditional gift of love to those involved with this sad situation.

Your tapping video unsurfaced a 10 year old trauma in my own family and I will be eternally grateful for the work you do.

My prayers and blessings to each and every one of you for who you are and what you do from your heart.

Can we do remote tapping for all of you and those involved. Do you have a suggestion for a tapping exercise we might do here at home. Thank you for your time and love for others.

  30. Mary says:

I am in agreement with Fern about tapping surrogately for the victims and their families. Knowing the difference that tapping has made in my life…healing in all areas…I pray for others to find this wonderful tool for living. I’m very happy to be a part of this and grateful for your actions.
May God bless and keep each and every one affected by this tragedy…enfolding those who have lost loved ones in angel’s wings.

  32. Cassandra says:

    hi Nick, Jessica,& Alex –

I deeply appreciate your work in general and that you are now organizing for meaningful healing support in Newton.

I offer that Ignatia Amara homeopathic is good for shock and grief. Would do at least 200c acute level. Molly of Green Hope Farm in New Hampshire might contribute flower essences that can help trauma see http://www.greenhopeessences.com. These are both very gentle relief measures.

As a tapping practitioner, I wonder about doing a large scale surrogate tapping event for Newton, I would welcome participating in it.

May your efforts be divinely supported in everyway.

  33. Laura Caudill says:

Nick, I appreciate what you are doing to help the Newtown survivors. This tragedy has touched the entire nation, and certainly my thoughts and prayers are with your community. May God bless you and your work.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of people who need Tapping now.
It is a major gift that the 3 Ortners are there in Newtown.

Along with our donations we can all be doing surrogate tapping.
Any guidance will be well used by this generous community
of caring folks Thank you for organizing this effort.

May peace prevail, inside and out.

  35. Tanya J. Allen says:

If you are new, or skeptical, about tapping, please know this works!!! If you feel funny about it, try it when no one is looking. Put your voice into it. Put your heart into it. Things will shift, and continue to improve with every time you tap. And group tapping for LOVE, PEACE and UNDERSTANDING does help.

  36. Suzette Greiner-Roth says:

  46. Vicki Luckman says:

    Hello Nick,

This is absolutely painful to think that it’s even possible for something like this to happen. I pause and wonder about life sometimes. The joys, the losses & the path to make sense of it all. I have my own thoughts on life and the spiritual path, yet it does not take away the intense grief of these families. Bless them all and you too Nick!

    Vicki

  47. nomi shannon says:

BRAVO. I am behing you 100% and will ask my list to support you.
    Much Love, Nomi

  48. Sloan Lewis says:

I think this is a great idea, and my heart goes out to all that have been affected by this tragedy. Another good idea, is if you send out a script on your email list for children that have heard of this horrible event. Certainly the children closely involved can benefit, but also children that are just hearing about it. It’s so scary for them. My daughter is 9 years old, and she was clearly upset by the idea that this could happen. I certainly re-assured her, but really, it could happen anywhere. We can’t live in fear, but we can use tapping as a way to release the fear and anxiety from it all. Thanks for all you do!

  49. Hilary says:

I live in Brookfield and have used EFT and Thought Field Therapy for myself.
If there is anything locally I can do to assist in serving people with this education, let me know.

  50. Marietta says:

Thanks, but I already contibuted today directly to School.
