Dr. Lissa Rankin: Mind Over Medicine

Written by: Nick Ortner

Jessica recently sat down with NY Times best-selling author of “Mind Over Medicine,” Dr. Lissa Rankin, to talk about some revolutionary approaches to healing our bodies. In this short video conversation, you’ll learn:

– Why EFT Tapping works so well on a variety of “physical” issues.

– The vital importance of understanding the difference between our sympathetic and para-sympathetic nervous systems (and how it could be making all the difference in your healing)

– The surprising fact about how your doctor’s beliefs affect YOU!

Join Jessica and Lissa in this candid video conversation:

(and make sure to watch until the end of the video for a few good laughs)

Wonderful educational informative interview. It is ABSOLUTELY TRUE!!
    Thank you sooo much!!

  2. Mary S. Kloss says:

    Thank you Jessica and Lissa.

My introduction to energy medicine was the Bach Flower Essences, Donna Eden’s work and then EFT. I am so grateful for this knowledge that you share so freely. I absolutely believe our emotions are part of determining our health.

Although I see results with all three modalities, EFT brings me further into my healing. Often bringing to the surface what more I have to work on.

    Thank you, thank you,

    Mary

Yes ? The body is the most beautiful machine in the world. However, the body is not just a machine it is the home of the soul. The body is a sacred gift, a miracle and a blessing. The body also has many beautiful and magnificent aspects to it, has a spiritual heart as well a physical heart. It has a mind, a brain, cells, bones, blood, nerves. organs… in short body mind, spirit, emotions and feelings are all interconnected and interrelated with each other.
I incorporated Tapping in my daily life and has help me emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally. It really works .
    Thank you so much ???

  4. Patsy Sealey says:

    Yes!! Yes!! Yes!!

  5. Preet says:

Yes we have a power to heal ourselves and we should believe in ourselves. Thank you

  6. Pauline Byrne says:

I do believe this, however it is so difficult to find a physician who will listen, let alone follow-up with this. I know what is causing my symptons but all I Get is a prescription. Keep up the good work, it is badly needed

  7. Debra Sholly says:

I am overjoyed to hear this information from a doctor. I am a 63 year old woman who has a history of doing healing work most of my life with clients. I did bodywork for 13 years and always talked with my clients about the connection between our emotions and health in the body! I saw that the physical and emotional bodies were connected and affect each other and the Spiritual and Mental bodies are connected and they of course are all connected and we need to balance them for true health. Over the years I was blessed to have physicians who were open to alternative therapies and the ones that weren’t just thought I was crazy! Thank you for the beautiful spirit you are and teaching other physicians!

  8. Carol says:

I fully believe we have the ability to heal ourselves & I personally witnessed this to support my belief.
When I was younger (the early 1960s), my Dad had his 3rd heart attack & his doctor told him he had 6 months to live. My Dad told the doctor NO ONE other than God knows the time a soul will be called home & that he was done with him & would heal himself.
Long story short, he modified everything from cooking utensils to what he ate & thought: He not only buried the doctor that gave him 6 months but also two subsequent doctors, living 22 YEARS after the initial diagnosis. (I’m sure if he had the modalities available today, he may’ve even lived longer)
When I told my husband I was following tapping & naturopaths as well as look at natural healing through food & belief alterations, he asked me how/when I decided to do this as I’m now the same age my Dad was when he changed his life. I’ve committed myself to learning as much as I can to keep myself healthy & heal my maladies (not sure if this is due to nature or nurture, but I have full faith in my ability to stop, if not stem my autoimmune diseases.
I look forward to learning as much as I can so I may enjoy a better life physically & physiologically than in the past & be able to enjoy my first grandchild who is due this June.
Keep up the great work & spreading the news to all!

    Hi Jessica
I am a firm believer in Mind over Medicine. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 24 years ago and at one point I went on drug therapy because that was all that seemed to be available at the time. On one of my visits to the hospital I began crying and as I parked my car and walked to the clinic I figured out that I needed to stop the drug therapy and heal on my own. I have used many healing modalities starting with positive thinking, visualization, praying, and a lot of reading from motivational speakers. One of my first books included Norman Vincent Peal; he was the positive thinking guru at the time. I have come a long way and have evolved to Wayne Dyer, Doreen virtue, Caroline Myse, and most recently I have participated in the World tapping Summit. it has helped me a great deal and continues to make huge positive healing changes. thank you

  10. Sandra says:

loved the video! We certainly do have the power to heal ourselves but like most struggle to make this a reality! The work Lissa is doing is amazing

  11. Susan Pittas says:

Yes, I more than believe it, I know it. I have seen it demonstrated in my own beingness and that of my clients when i was doing coaching. I am 74 and am doing better than I was 7-8 years ago. I’ve been on a roller coaster from one surgery to the next to correct or relieve osteoarthritic conditions from over use, accidents and some just plain wear and tear (which included a lot of stress). I have had several conditions result from doctor interference gone bad. A year and a half ago, a spinal surgeon from my orthopedist’s office wanted to do a laminectomy on me (cut out pieces of my spine and put metal and screws in). I just didn’t believe what he was saying. Instead I let my former chiropractor use a new electronic stim. on my entire spine and a month later a neurosurgeon said, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” I’m not completely free of discomfort, but I am even more functional and more able to move.
When I thought I was finally through this phase, I got Shingles Feb, ’16. Thats when I tried the tapping with you, Jessica. In the middle of the night, refusing to take any more opiates and after almost 2 wks of not being able to sleep more than 20 mins. at a time. I tapped, and within 20 mins, I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer and I slept for 6 hours straight! Never went back to the meds and was able to cope with the Shingles in my head and eye.
I have used the tapping since and will often use just the karate chopping to deal with something, but don’t have time, and just those statements, set me back to myself. Pretty astounding! Yes, Jessica, I have seed an enormous amount of healing outside the usual medical model in my life and in the lives of others… there is no doubt. Words, not just those of doctors, all words have power. We need to use them wisely.

  12. Ft hanks to tapping I am changing.more vociferous, less ready to allow myself to be driven.thanks! says:

I find myself tolerating sadness even if I am uncertain why I am sad. I scream if angry new for me! And no longer drive myself as of old. All good! Here’s to tappingAnd

  13. Janice says:

Great interview !! Thanks to both of you in creating a shift in the way doctors deal with their patients. It is long overdue. I’ve had my share of doctors who felt threatened or challenged by what I know.
I would love to read that book.
    Keep up the good work.

  14. Shannon says:

I absolutely know that emotions impact and often cause physical health problems. I do tapping with the women I work with at a substance abuse rehab and see amazing results. Over their course of treatment we teach and use many approaches to pain relief….meditation, yoga, tapping, and others. I totally support Dr. Rankin’s efforts.

    • Nick Ortner says:

Thank you for the work you are doing to help others Shannon. It is great to hear the various methods you are using in your approach. We wish you all the best! 🙂

  15. Kat says:

Wow! I am so glad to have found EFT. I am 68 and am now just beginning a journey of working on healing from PTSD. I learned and am now tapping daily thanks to the Tapping Summit. No one but myself is going to be able to work through and heal the emotions from the past. Meds are just a bandaid. They don’t heal your thoughts. “Live in the past you are depressed. Live in the future you are anxious. Live in the present you are at peace.” ( I don’t remember source) Meditation has proven to me that I can fight a panic attack just by what I focus on. Just by changing a stressful focus to a more calm one I can lower my blood pressure. Now I have tapping to help. Tapping has helped with chronic pain. This says it’s my thoughts that definitely affect the pain. I enjoyed the video and learned to be more careful with who I let take care of my body other than myself. Please keep up the good work, all of you.

  16. Amiek Klingler says:

I believe that my body knows what I need to do to heal. The hard part for me is listening to my body.

  17. Annegret says:

I am so glad to see that Health care is changing positivly. Your Videos are supporting me.
    Thank you so much
    Annegret

  18. Poonam says:

Absolutely. My thoughts and emotions are the blueprint of my body. As I think so I become ie that’s what my body sort of creates… Good, Bad or Ugly

  19. Yvette De Souza says:

Yes I do believe that our thoughts and emotions impact our health for sure. I also believe that we have the power to heal ourselves if we have the right open mind set. Thank you so much for this video. I need to read this book. Thank you.

  20. Maryjayne says:

I absolutely believe our thoughts and emotions impact our health. I am a living testimony to this from my own health transformation. I became very sick ( thoughts & emotions played into this sickness) my doctors had told me I would be in a wheel chair within 5 years. I used medication to function and help keep the emotional & mental pain Comfortably numb.
What I didn’t know was the medication is a double-edged sword. Blessing and Curse.
As time passed I began to hear a whisper saying “you need to remove the medicine in order to grow more deeply” I began to believe that whisper and decided to see myself healthy & happy without pain or medicine. I had experienced the blessing of medicine now after many, many years the medication turned into a curse.
I had to deal with myself for real. Mentally, Emotionally and Physically. Once the medicine was safely out of my system the real work began!
I am fully aware and engaged with my thoughts and emotions watching the impact on my body. I use meditation, tapping, visualizing, walking… this evolving process has me viewing my own behavioral patterns that I am currently in the mist of changing!
Our Emotions and Thoughts Do have a substantial impact on our body.
I’m excited to read Dr. Rankin book
    Maryjayne

    • Nick Ortner says:

Congratulations on all of the work you have done to heal yourself, get in touch with your emotions and feel your best! That is awesome. We wish you continued success and very good health. 🙂

  21. Lisa says:

Absolutely! If your thoughts can make you ill (which I believe) then I can also make you well. I love the idea of making sure that your doctor believes that you can get well.
My mother was ill for my entire life, chronically ill. In fact, she died of her illnesses and the decades of medication that her kidneys had to filter.
It seems likely that neither the doctors nor my mom thought she could get well. So she didn’t.
So glad that this shift is happening. I’m part of the 51%, too.

  22. kay says:

So nice to see medical doctors coming around and believing in tapping and other non traditional methods to healing yourself and dealing with any type of pain. Thank you for the insight.
