If you're one of the over 100 million Americans suffering from chronic pain, or one of the millions of others suffering around the world, you've probably looked far and wide for a solution to give you relief.

Beyond the issue of the pain itself, physical pain puts tremendous limitations on our lives. The American Association of Physicists in Medicine, after extensive research, has stated the following about physical pain:

  • More than three quarters (77%) of patients suffering from chronic pain report feeling depressed.
  • Almost two-thirds (59%) report an impact on their overall enjoyment of life.
  • 70% say they have trouble concentrating.
  • 74% say their energy level is impacted by their pain.
  • 86% report an inability to sleep well.

You see, when you're dealing with physical pain it limits your ability to live a full life. You're constantly putting mental attention and energy towards dealing with the pain, and that is holding you back from putting that attention and energy towards the things you want to do in life.

Releasing your physical pain is about a heck of a lot more than just feeling better in your body. It's about giving you the freedom to live the life you want, how you want.

Understanding how to eliminate your physical pain has to first start with addressing what’s causing the pain, and all too often, doctors are completely missing the boat on the key factors leading to pain...

To highlight just how off track we’ve been, let start off with an example of the cause of lower back pain…

If back pain happens to be your challenge, then you may have been told that your pain was caused by a “herniated disc.” But what’s surprising is that studies have found no conclusive evidence that herniated discs cause pain, especially chronic pain. Studies show that many people whose X-rays reveal a herniated disc have no pain, while others who X-rays reveal no herniated disc report excruciating pain.

According to one study done by George Washington University and published in the journal “Spine,” lumbar CT scans were performed on 52 patients who had no low back pain. The neuroradiologists who reviewed the scans had no knowledge of the patients’ clinical histories.

They found disc abnormalities, stenosis, and other aging changes in 35.4 percent of the entire group and in 50 percent of the group over 40 years of age. The study findings suggest that these are all normal abnormalities and that they can’t be conclusively linked to pain.

Let me repeat this, because I know how many people experience back pain and have been told it’s because of a herniated disc: they examined dozens of CT scans that clearly indicated herniated discs, stenosis, and other abnormalities, yet none of the people had pain.

Additional statistics around pain are just as confusing. While many blame conditions like herniated discs, as well as chronic pain in general, on age, most back pain sufferers are in midlife, somewhere between 30 and 60 years old. Several studies have shown a decrease in back pain once people reach their early to mid-60s. If chronic back pain were age related, 65-year-olds would be reporting more pain, not less, than 45-year-olds do. More confounding data!

The confusion about what causes pain increases when you look at pain statistics by gender. Back pain, migraines, neck pain, facial and jaw pain, fibromyalgia, and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) are all more common in women than in men, but none of these conditions has been linked to gender-specific anatomy or health issues.

So where’s the pain really coming from?

Might our common knowledge about pain, that it’s related to something being physically wrong with the body or with getting older, be just plain wrong or, at the very least, dramatically near-sighted? I think it is...

Research shows that the brain has the ability to create or eliminate physical pain from the body...

Thanks to large libraries of functional images and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans that show what happens in the brain when a patient experiences physical pain, we know that the brain can send signals to the body that then produce pain. We also know that the brain can take pain away. Research has also shown that emotions such as fear and anxiety can increase pain. Negative emotions may also turn short-term pain into a chronic condition.

One Dutch study on how negative emotions affect pain involved 121 women: 62 had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a condition that involves chronic pain, and 59 did not have the disease. Using an electrical stimulus, pain was induced in two separate circumstances: while the women recalled an emotionally neutral event and as they remembered an event that made them feel sad and/or angry. Higher levels of pain were consistently felt when the women were recalling memories that made them feel sad and/or angry.

In a separate randomized controlled trial with more than 150 patients, those who were given cognitive behavioral therapy that allowed them to express their emotions experienced less pain, fatigue, and functional disability than those who were put on a waiting list did. So how do emotions interact with pain in the body?

There are many different ways the brain and body can create, increase, and prolong pain...

In some cases, a physical event, like picking up something heavy and hurting your back, is what initially triggers pain.

In that case, nearly everyone experiences pain immediately, or very soon after the injury occurs. Immediately after, the brain’s networks and neurons begin to rewire in an effort to protect you from similar future injuries—putting you on “higher alert” to avoid pain.

The brain’s ability to rewire is known as neuroplasticity. The neuroplastic changes that occur in the brain immediately after an injury vary significantly from one person to another and from one event to another.

Some experts believe that the nature and timing of the specific neuroplastic changes in the brain that happen after an injury may affect where, and for how long, you experience pain from that injury. In other words, your emotional state at the time of injury, or during the hours immediately after the injury occurs, may help to determine whether your pain will become chronic, whether it will occur in several places or just one, and so on.

Physical pain doesn't need to limit your life any longer.
The simple technique known as Tapping can allow you to finally get to the root cause of your physical pain and release it...

Tapping, otherwise known as EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a combination of Ancient Chinese Acupressure and Modern Psychology.

It was developed originally by Roger Callahan in the 1980's and modified and expanded upon by Gary Craig. Since then, thousands of psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, coaches and individual users have adopted this powerful technique for use on themselves, their clients, family members and more.

This simple technique literally involves "tapping" on the meridian points of our body while saying certain statements.

EFT has been known to work for years by psychologists, therapists, coaches and everyday people. In recent years, a major push has been made for more evidence-based research and the results have been astounding!

Clinical research studies with EFT are showing impressive results in a variety of areas, including weight loss, emotional problems, addictions, phobias, post traumatic stress disorder, athletic performance, and among other things...yes...amazing results with relief from chronic pain!

are saying about the effectiveness of Tapping...

The Science Behind Tapping:
Here's how Tapping works to release negative emotions locked in your unconscious mind, and thus release physical pain from the body...

So how does tapping figure into the science of pain and, more important, pain relief and the body-mind? There's a growing body of research on the topic...

One important area of research deals with how tapping effects the ability of the body to eliminate or greatly reduce negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, overwhelm and other limiting emotions that lead to physical pain.

In a double-blind study conducted by Dawson Church, Ph.D., tapping was shown to produce, on average, a 24 percent drop in cortisol after just one hour of tapping. During that same hour of talk therapy without tapping, participants showed a much smaller drop in cortisol levels. Here are a few reasons for why this is so powerful...

It has been shown that when the body is in a stress state, the cells go into a protection/survival mode rather than a healing and regeneration mode. That means that if you want your body to heal and eliminate pain, your cells need to NOT be in a stress state.

So by using Tapping, you can release stress from your body, and thus allow your cells to go into a regenerating state so as to eliminate physical pain.

Also, when people are in a chronic fight-or-flight state, when dealing with stress, anxiety, overwhelm, etc, stress hormones are released, and those hormones have a huge effect in sensitizing nerves. When the nerves are sensitized, everything just hurts more…

So by using Tapping to release those emotions, the nerves are desensitized and pain levels go down.

Another area of research with tapping and pain relief of note is how it has been shown that acupuncture, and potentially acupressure, as well, provides pain relief by increasing endorphin levels in the body. Since tapping engages acupressure points while also lowering cortisol, it's likely that tapping, like acupuncture, allows the body to release the endorphins that then relieve pain.

Because tapping sends calming, relaxing signals directly to the amygdala, it may also help us to override the brain's negativity bias more rapidly. By using tapping to neutralize what it thought were threats to its survival, we're able to reprogram the brain to support more positive experiences, such as pain relief, pleasure, and relaxation.

And a final area on the incredible results that tapping has on alleviating chronic pain may be explained, at least in part, by its ability to access what are called meridian channels.

While knowledge of the existence of these channels dates back to ancient Chinese medicine, it wasn't until the 1960s that these thread-like microscopic anatomical structures were first seen on stereo microscope and electron microscope images. These scans showed tubular structures measuring 30 to 100 micrometers wide running up and down the body. Described in a published paper by a researcher named Kim Bonghan, they are also referred to as "Bonghan channels." As a reference point, one red blood cell is 6 to 8 micrometers wide, so these structures are tiny!

You can think of meridian channels as a fiber-optic network in the body. They carry a large amount of information, often electrical and often beyond what the nervous system or chemical systems of the body can carry. By accessing these channels while processing emotions, thoughts, as well as physical conditions like pain, tapping is able to get to the root cause of chronic pain more quickly than other approaches can.

Now it's easier than ever for you to use the Tapping technique to release physical pain from your body - FOR GOOD!

Over the last few years I've developed and refined a specific process to use Tapping to release physical pain.

I developed this process after years of working with clients one-on-one and in group settings.

I've put all of my knowledge, experience and specific protocols for pain relief into my new book "The Tapping Solution for Pain Relief: A Step-by-Step Guide to Reducing and Eliminating Chronic Pain,".

Whether you've been dealing with chronic physical pain for years, or you're just dealing with physical pain from time to time, this book can help you to greatly reduce or eliminate your pain.
