A Necessary Shift in Perspective

I’m writing today about something that I feel is CRITICAL regarding the future success of Tapping and other healing modalities and could have a profound impact on YOUR life.

It’s a bit long, but it could completely change your future and our collective future- I mean it. :)

I’m going to ask you to take a close look at any thoughts or feelings this email brings up because they are vitally important.

So what’s this huge topic?

It’s the idea of business and money being involved in the “healing” world.

Somewhere along the way, someone, maybe it was parents, teachers, the government, friends, who knows… Came up with the idea that it’s wrong to charge or make any money when working on healing or helping people.

And this belief is destructive to no end.

Let’s look at two scenarios and see how this belief is so harmful.

Case Study #1: Excited Potential Tapping Practitioner

Mary works for a financial services company, as an administrative assistant. She makes $45,000 per year, has good health benefits, and feels generally secure in her job. She doesn’t enjoy it one bit, but every other Friday she has her paycheck direct deposited into her bank account, and along with her husband’s salary, it makes ends meet.

She never has to ask for this money, every year or two she gets a small raise and she continues onwards. The subject of “money”, rarely comes up for her with regards to receiving it from her employer. She doesn’t question the work they do, the profits they are earning but is content to get her paycheck.

Mary discovers Meridian Tapping, and is thrilled with the results she gets for herself and her family members. She does more training, gets her hands on all the free resources she can, and begins to become quite proficient at tapping. She dreams of helping other people, but she just keeps doing “free” sessions.

People offer to pay her, they are delighted with the results, but she just “doesn’t feel right taking the money”. She believes the work was so much fun, so rewarding, that money shouldn’t be involved. More and more people start coming to her, and she says quietly to herself, “How I would love to do this full time!”

But when she sits down with her husband to discuss the subject of her leaving her job, the math just doesn’t add up. Her husband says, “If you charged $75 per hour and had three clients per day, for 50 weeks out of the year, we would be around your current salary, including benefits, and other perks”

“$75 per hour???” Mary says, “There is no way I could charge that, that’s not right at all. I would feel completely uncomfortable”

Her husband replies, “Do you think what you’re providing is worth $75 per hour?”

Mary, “Well, people do get amazing results faster than anything else they do. I worked with someone the other day who had spent 5 years in therapy, and over $10,000, and we collapsed her issue in one session! But…. It still wouldn’t “feel” right, I just can’t charge for this…”

So there, sadly, the story ends. Mary’s limiting belief about receiving, about charging money for her healing work leaves her at her unfulfilling job.

The consequences of this belief are profound.

And not just for Mary, but for the hundreds of people she could have helped… If only she had been able to accept the fact that money, that the energy of money, is a reality of this earthly experience, and that learning to ask for it and accept it when providing healing services can change the world.

Are you a “Mary”? How many “Marys” could be out in the world right now, changing lives on a daily basis?

Case Study #2: A dream, a vision, and “money”….

The first case study was hypothetical, though I’ve seen real life examples over and over again. This story is as real as it gets, because it’s my story! Just over two years ago now, I had the dream, the inspiration, to make a documentary film about Tapping. I had seen the results in my life and the lives of my friends and family over and over again, and felt that the world needed to know more about this!

Mind you, I had NO experience in film-making, NO equipment, NO staff, just the dream… But I set off to make the film anyway. I was committed to the vision and the dream but I was ALSO practical about the financial side of it. You see, to make the movie, I had to invest $200,000 of money I didn’t have! I put it all on credit cards and credit lines, maxed to the hilt. I went to friends and family to borrow money. I recruited friends and family to work on the film. Jessica Ortner, my sister and one of the producers, and Nick Polizzi, my close friend, director and editor worked for nothing for over two years.

They too were committed to the vision, the dream, the experience, but they also knew at some point that the film would have to be financially feasible, that they would be rewarded for their efforts, so they could pay back the credit card debt they had accrued and be able to continue in this work.

I WISH that when I came up with this idea, I could have called the mortgage company, the credit card companies, the local grocery store, the insurance company, the car company, the phone company, the electric company, the heating company…

And said to them, nicely, “Dear Sirs, I’ve just come up with a fantastic idea that I truly believe is going to change the lives of millions of people around the world. I want to share the knowledge about an incredible technique and do it in a documentary format, so people could see real results that they could use to change their lives. It will truly be for the betterment of humanity and I’ll even give you copies of the film when it’s done!”

Then they could have said to me, “Great idea Nick! We’ll stop charging you for everything you need to live, so you can put this plan into action!”

Unfortunately….

The game doesn’t really work that way!

So if I was to make it work, to pay back the $200,000, to be able to sustain myself and my family, I simply had to make it financially feasible. Which meant I had to do everything I could to not only create a superior product (and fortunately the reviews on our website and Amazon.com show that the end product is powerful and changing lives), but I also had to do everything I could to SELL it.

Oh! Another dirty word! SELL!

Ugh… Icky…..Dangerous….

No, it’s not. It’s reality.

If I wanted to make this whole dream work, I simply had to be able to sell the film, and sell other things. Otherwise, I’d have to be like Mary, and go back to a “job”.

We’ve been able to donate over 8,000 copies of “The Tapping Solution” and that can only happen if I sell it to other people! A few months ago we ran a “Pick Your Own Price” special, where thousands of people were able to buy the film and companion book, at not much more than “cost” for me. And we were able to do that because other people bought it at full price, if not more! (some people paid more than the full price, to support other people and donate more copies!)

Over the holidays, we donated over $12,000 to Move the Mountain and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. Good things are happening!

If you haven’t seen the documentary yet, you can pick up a copy here: http://www.thetappingsolution.com (yup, I’m selling it to you! I’m trying to convince you to buy it! LOL)

So you see, it all “works” when everyone gets in alignment with the energy of money. When we stop bickering about someone “selling” healing, or how it should all be free. :)

I’ve been saying recently that the BEST thing that could happen in the healing and personal growth world is for someone to figure out how to make a BILLION dollars spreading this information.

Why? Well, that person would then be able to put a television advertisement right after the one for the drug companies! Right now, we can’t do that! But we need to figure out a way to do so and we need to stop attacking ourselves and those around us for trying to “make money” in this field.

So as a warning, with all that being said, in case you’re queasy still about something being sold or money, I’m about to promote something to you…

Haha.

In March I’ll be involved in a groundbreaking event that deals with all these issues specifically, and much more. I’m delighted to join Carol Look, Bob Doyle (The Secret), Jennifer McLean and Rick Wilkes in a 3 day event called, “Turning Passion Into Profit”

I’ve never seen an event like this before, in its ability to dramatically transform your life and your business in just three days. I’m personally delighted to be able to attend and take my passions to the next level.

Also, as a bonus for the next TEN people that sign up, I’m going to offer them a one on one phone consultation on how to achieve the impossible (making your creative ideas and dreams come true) or taking your business to the next level. A $200 value, only for the next TEN people. Just email me your receipt after signing up and we’ll schedule the session. And you better act fast, because 72,500 people are receiving this email, right now. :)

You can read all about the event here:

http://www.wealthbeyondreason.com/passionprofit/

Make sure to listen to the free MP3 of the four of us discussing the events and what will be covered It’s short, fun and informative.

So, your blog question for today is…

What limiting beliefs might you have about money or selling?

Are you ready to tap those away?

Is it OK for people to make money in this field?

Are you finally ready to unplug from what the rest of society tells you and blaze your own trail?

Comment below!

Until next time…

Keep tapping!

Much love,
Nick

P.S. For me, this business, this project, is about “balance”. That’s why over 46,000 people attended the Tapping World Summit for free, and thousands purchased a copy to keep. That’s why over 35,000 people have bought the documentary film “The Tapping Solution” and we’ve been able to donate over 8,000 copies. Balance! :)

P.P.S. Make sure to forward this email on to your friends and family, especially those involved in the healing arts! :)

  1. Since I ordered The Secret of Intentional Wealth Program (THANK YOU MARGARET LYNCH!!!) and have been tapping like crazy on issues around Money I have realized that my issues in charging others for helping them was about me not valuing myself and what I have to offer. Plain and simple. As I have worked on increasing my own inner net worth… I feel great about the idea of charging other people for offering them something of great value, AND I feel great about giving and sharing too and creating win-win-win situations for myself and others. We can do both. That which you do send out into the world comes back to you…and then some.
Also if people don’t make some investment into what they are getting…they are unlikely to value it.

  2. Hi Nick,
I am DEFINITELY A MARY… I could so well resonate with what you said about Mary. The only thing is I do not think it is wrong that people charge money for healing, but I cannot do it. I dont know why, but I think it is because I fear that I love my art so much that i dont want it to be bogged down by mundane issues of Money. But like you said, that is a reality when we are in this plane. I so want to get rid of this fear of losing my passion if I put a price to it! I am a Reiki Master and an EFT practitioner. Well, I cant really say am a practitioner, but I have been trying all the meridian points on so many of my friends and relatives and have had amazing results. At times I am guided to use EFT instead of Reiki, and many a times I use it together. Off late I have been wanting to do this full time, but just like Mary, I hesitate! and i do recognise that it is because of this hesitation that I give people the impression I do not know enough. One can never know enough , but I undermine my self by hesitating this.. am sure EFT will help me.. so yes I am looking forward to that seminar. Reading your story, all along, I envied you and the thought that came was “wow you are so lucky” . I guess I am paying too much attention to money huh?
Anyway, thank you for your story. I was just talking about this aspect earlier in the day with my Reiki teacher and friend. He is like you, who believes we are doing a service and that we should charge. Again I agree, but when it comes to me, I feel I dont deserve to ask for money…
Thanks again.. waiting for your seminar!!
    Regards and love and light

  3. Yes, I believe we are entitled to be for our healing services. Money is just another wonderful exchange of energy. This is something I have worked on a long time and little by little I am breaking down the barriers. I now live in a home filled with love, peace, beauty, artistic creativity and abundance. I work in my perfect job, I do video spots for the company I work for. It all works. If we live in an abundant world then there is enough for everyone in every form of expression including money. It is a joyous thing to pay for something with cash it is instantly exchanged for goods, services or a good meal in an opulent restaurant or going to the theatre and seeing a play that fills me with wonderful emotions. It is a soul-filled experience. And something I can only experience in this way, in my physical body for which I am very grateful. Money is fun for myself and others. it is a nice way to give and a nice way to receive. A friend once called Money “fun tickets”. I now find that when I am open to recieveing money. It comes, when my fear of it comes up, I block it. But I am here on earth and I can keep opening up to the loving, joyful receiving of money. and it appears at the perfect time. The more we embrace money, the more we will bring in money and it will help our economy. Visualize seeing your own money tree and when you take some more money instantly grows in it’s place. It is fun.

  4. I too have those same limited beliefs but from the perspective of the customer. It’s fine to make money doing something so rewarding and life changing, but what about those that need help and just cannot afford the rates charged for these alternative healing sessions?

  5. Hi Nick,

Thanks for addressing this hot topic! I heard Eric Pearle talking about this same issue and your examples really drive it home! I suppose people can share this wonderful healing modality for free if they so chose, but if they want to do it for a living for gosh sakes let them do that! If you hadn’t accepted the financial risk to put this out to the world we wouldn’t have the excellent film you produced and all the other tapping resources you provide. Many of which are FREE!!! I want to support that and the easiest way for me to do that is to give you money so you can do more good in the world! Think of it this way, for the price of 10 lattes I can get your DVD and share it with others. I’d rather give you my cash than Starbucks anyday!

People get what they pay for – literally. If there is no investment, as Eric Pearle said, a healing can’t occur. I don’t care if its a casserole or cash my clients pay me, but there should be some energy exchange that feels fair. If people have a big charge around this then my thought is they probably have some great material to tap on! Keep on keeping on!

  6. Hi Nick!
Wonderful to read your story of success. I’m very excited that you will be joining with others to teach people how to follow their passion AND make money all at the same time. I remember when I first told Jessica I was becoming a MTT practitioner, I also balked about charging too much. In time, however, I realized that was making a statement about my own value. I now have a successful practice of my own and even my own energy healing system. I often tell my clients, “Stop wanting and start expecting.” Those two words have drastically different implications.

Congratulations on your accomplishments. I, too, agree that if enough of us come together to promote alternative healing modes, we can get the word out to more and more people. I’m jumping on the bandwagon to promote tapping in every way I can, because, like you, I’ve witnessed the incredible changes in peoples’ lives due to removing those non-serving programs. Best of luck in your new endeavor! Say hello to “the gang” from me!

    God Bless–

  7. Watch the movie, reading the book, done some experimental tapping, not sure what the results are. Not ready to jump in with both feet yet. I will continue to tap for 2 specific aspects. One physical and the other related to tapping and weight loss, I have not tapped for that yet.

  8. I attended the amazing free world summit, and encouraged my associates to listen in. I work with several modalities for Trauma Recovery – EFT is the most effective. We have a program to train staff working with trauma victims in shelters. We are working to develop accounts that will pay for our out-reach programs so we can continue to offer free services to those in need.
The work that ‘Try in on Everything” is doing has been of great help to our non-profit.
We also are working towards certifying “Positive Living Strategists” to continue our work and be able to create income steams to assist in overcoming financial woes. Support the Cause.

Totally shocking and contrary to mainstream propaganda of the “magic pill”.
So true its doesnt add up if people in this field dont charge.

  10. It seems our society has always valued the entertainment, be it sports or the movies, and don’t hesitate to discuss the values or worths of individuals in those fields. We also almost worship their actions, words and follow their thoughts and lead whether they know anything about the subject or not. It seems easy and safe to let ourselves be led into watching others live their lives…thereby making a waste of ours by not attending to our own thoughts and deeds. So, by returning focus to ourselves almost seems selfish! We feel guilty for not paying the preacher, for not paying the healer. After all, our history supports the thought that a “pure” person is not poor in spirit but truly is poor in physical attainment.
I am Mary above. I don’t feel worthy to give up a profession to perhaps make money off of helping others. What if I am NOT good enough, don’t know enough. I don’t want to live the poor life as I have in the past…and past lives. I understand fully the fear of that position. My passion is the healing arts that I am afraid to leap into doing!
The true reality is that one doesn’t get back until one gives. PERIOD! I can’t expect my healer to fully serve my needs until that person is capable of being whole…in body, mind and finances. The nation’s economy is proof that we have things mixed up.
As we move toward better payment (or energy exchanges) for those that provide valued services we need to contemplate fully what is a valued service. I have unplugged the football, basketball games. I have quit going to marginal movies and don’t worship the words of the mighty celebrity. I have to take back my power and set the example to myself and those around me that those helping me must also be true and help themselves. There are vast fortunes that could be made by the shift in “valued services”. By changing the mindset of each person…and enabling them to think for themselves…the shift would be drastic and swift. I truly think the time is coming where many are realizing that the one that will save them is not “someone else” but themselves…and that alone shifts the “values” to those that give them the best advantage to be the “best they can be”.

  12. My husband and I charge $75 an hour for an EFT counseling session and are often given a check for more money than that. We also give seminars on a suggested Love Offering basis and engage our audiences in “borrowed benefits” by working with one or two people directly. The seminars often opens the door to some for private counseling. Being able to help people who have not been able to help themselves is very Spirtually rewarding – and sometimes we are guided to give rather than charge – but we have no qualms about charging for being an instrument that creates miracles. Being paid simply makes it possible for us to do more to help more people, more of the time.

  13. Hi Nick,
I agree that there has to be a balance between service and money.
Those who have a problem with understanding that exchange could benefit by tapping out their self-worth and money issues.

  14. You’re right. Everyone knows that physicians and specialists in Western Medicine are paid highly for seeing a client just for 15 or 20 minutes. Yet, I find for energy healing, many people think it should be free or be subsidized by government or private health plans. (Canadian perspective) I, myself was doing it for free for a while.
As an RN, I was paid well when working with the Disease Model, however, as I have transitioned to the more effective Wellness model which EFT is part of, I see the quicker, lasting results but definitely not the Remuneration. I have re-mortgage my home to pay advertising and living expenses because the results of my energy healing and EFT therapies gave me hope.
EFT tapping on myself re: abundance issues resulted in two self-published historical novels which have been selling well. Now, I am waiting for one person to buy movie rights, then I will be able to pursue my practice in the techniques of tapping, energy medicine and qigong.
My website has not attracted any clients. Instead clients have been acquaintances, referrals and some resulted from reading of my novel.

  15. Nick, this article kicks ass! This is something that needed to be said – in the honest, straightforward and incredibly BRAVE way that only you can deliver. When just one Mary under-values themselves, especially in the healing arts, thousands of people are deprived the gift of Mary’s unique brilliance. When just one Mary totally honors their brilliance and deserving, she gives thousands of people permission and inspiration to do the same. This is the essence of healing far beyond any one technique. Thank you for this! xo Margaret

  16. As a student of Christian Science, this topic has much relevance! For those not familiar with CS, it was founded by Mary Baker Eddy, who wrote ‘Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures’, which we study along with the Bible. As adherents of this Science, we choose spiritual healing over the typical medical model, although it’s our choice, not mandated by the church. That said, when we encounter a difficulty that doesn’t yield to our own spiritual work, we call a Christian Science Practitioner for ‘treatment’–these helpers do charge for their help; they charge a daily fee but if a problem doesn’t improve quickly, that fee is lowered. Mrs. Eddy established & wrote a by-law requiring payment; she felt ‘…the worker is entitled to compensation’…and anyone who helps his fellowman, by lifting him/her out of their difficulties certainly has WORKED! Gratitude is wonderful but it doesn’t pay the bills…besides haven’t we all noticed that anything we acquire as a ‘freebie’ is many times not respected or taken seriously. If your work in EFT isn’t worthy of payment, doesn’t that send a subtle message that it’s not very valuable? Those who choose to provide a service should absolutely be compensated for it regardless of what others may think…

  17. I think with tapping being in its infancy – to give it credibility – and to get it out there – how Gary Craig has done it giving so much info for free – or at the lowest possible cost is still at this point in time go the way to go.
I only started tapping about two months ago with wonderful results. If I would have come across expensive courses and hype with The Secret in written in bolded letters somewhere in the print I would NOT have explored it, never! – and so not gotten the great results in my life. btw I love The Secret film and book – please understand what it is I am saying.
I think you are going in the wrong direction at this point in time. When I recommend EFT to people I say “hurry up and check out Gary Craig web-site before it goes down.” I shudder at recommending it in the future – from what I have seen happening out there now. I have spent hours on-line exploring EVERYTHING and so I am well informed about what people, beginners, will find in the future when they keyword EFT.
THERE ARE MILLIONS OF WAYS TO MANIFEST WEALTH – CREATE MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME AND WALK THAT TALK – PLEASE DON’T MILK EFT AT THIS POINT – IT MAY PUT TO MANY PEOPLE OFF THAT IT COULD HELP. Wait a little bit more.
    Please think about that.

    Thank you very much

  18. Why shouldn’t energy healers get paid for what we do? Doctors get paid (very well) for “healing”. They write prescriptions for drugs that can cause major side-effects, anything from dizziness to death. To hear about these possible side effects, all anyone needs to do is watch TV for a few hours and pay attention to the commercials for these drugs. Mary, in your Case Study #1, after the client had spent $10,ooo and still was not “cured”, collapsed the client’s issue in ONE session. How many prescription drugs actually CURE the problem? How long does the client or patient need to take these drugs? In lots of cases, maybe most, for the rest of their life, while still suffering from the side-effects! So how does the doctor combat the side-effects? In many cases, with more prescription drugs. How many follow-up doctor appointments are required, to monitor the effects of the drugs? Consider the payments and/or co-payments for all of these visits. Believe it or not, I am not criticizing doctors. They do what they know–what they are taught.
But as we know, MTT can, in lots of cases, collapse the issue in only one visit. At most, several visits, then it is GONE! With NO side-effects!
My point is, comparing the two above scenarios, which is the best, easiest, most effective for the patient/client? Considering all that MTT can do for the client, why should anyone feel guilty about accepting money for her/his services? We are doing a great service, feeling great about being able to help and being able to support our families, at the same time.
Other helpers— ministers, nurses, consultants, etc. get paid. Why shouldn’t MTT therapists?

  19. As the saying goes, if the laborer is worth his work he is worth his keep. There is nothing at all wrong about either working for money or “selling” if the product is honorable. In the case of Reiki for example, the rule is that it is NEVER done free of charge. I look forward to spreading the word about this documentary and the practice of tapping in general.
I am with you 100% on this.

  20. Hi Teresa- thanks for the comment. I’d ask that you take a closer look at some of what this post brought up to you. I suggest in my post that practitioners should feel good about charging and that people need to make money, and to you, that seems like “milking” EFT.

Last I checked Gary Craig SOLD his DVD sets, as is his right. (The Foundational Library sells for $150 and the Honors LIbrary for $210, I think they’re a good value, but still being sold). You say he offers it at the lowest possible cost, but that’s simply not the case. (and that’s ok!) :)

The printed version of his manual is SOLD on Amazon, it’s free to download (as is much of what we offer, free ebook, free audios and videos Jessica creates), but something like a book, or a dvd set simply has to be sold.

    take care,

  21. Hi Nick,
You are so right about $$ and balance. I attended the Tapping Summit, and have kept tapping since. Usually I am tapping about health and emotions. However, I need to open up some of those abundance doors. Last year I had increased my writng income significantly, and then the company closed their doors. Recently, I have found another company to write articles for.
This is relevant as my dream to support myself as a writer didn’t skip a beat. Soon I will have several blogs and more places to publish. Although the last few months were far from easy, and I had a few rejection slips…I can see that I can prosper at writing!
Keep up with your bold adventures, and thanks for all you do! Mary MacIntyre

  22. I do not have any problems with people making money in this healing field (honestly). Prior to tapping, I have been ‘ healed’ with the help of a talented chiropractor. He had no issues with charging for his talent. He is well aware of tapping and is very excited about the possibilities.

  23. Nick, my Vedic astrologer does not charge a “fee”, but accepts what the Hindus call “dana” (or “daan”), which does not mean “donation”, per se, but can loosely be translated as “a fair exchange of energy”. The point of view is that, if you received value from the process, then you should compensate the practitioner in kind. It’s up to the client to decide what that value is. The practitioner remains neutral about the amount involved.

Practitioners who literally charge nothing for their services need to be aware that they are doing a disservice to their clients. The operative principle is, “you don’t get something for nothing”. If the client pays nothing, his subconscious mind will not value the process, and the benefit that could have been gained will probably be blocked. Paying even one penny for the service obviates this possibility.

  26. Great post. I used to be a “Mary”. Then I accidentally stumbled across the practice of asking. It was really by accident. I had just purchased a book, brand new in the store, when the next day I got an email with the same book being offered but with bonuses that looked really good. I emailed the party in charge and asked for the bonuses since I already had the book. I was so excited to get a “Yes” to my request and also an explanation that the author teaches that in the book. I hadn’t even read that far, LOL! This was the first time in my life I’d ever asked for something of this nature.

Since then I did business coaching with a well-known person who appears in The Secret who also taught the art of asking and suddenly just that one little change boosted my businesses. I started to hear “Yes” instead of “I’ll think about it” or “I’ll get back to you”. People started buying!

When we have the ability to change people’s lives through our products or our health practices (like EFT of course!) we have an obligation to charge for them. When people get free they will not respect us as much and will not value the results as much as when they are paid for. How many free ebooks are sitting on my computer unread? Too many! The ones I paid for had a better chance.

Thanks Nick for a great lesson…one I wish I had learned a lot sooner. I hope many others will learn from it TODAY! Now, off to the link…..

  27. Hey Nick,

Good post. Here is some heads up real world info for all the potential “Marys” out there. After working on almost 100 people and studying Gary’s videos intensely and feeling confident in my skills, I decided to go for it and try to make a living full time as an EFT practitioner. I advertised and spread the word and got my clients get results and were satisfied about 75-80 % of the time. (50-60% is amazing!) There will be people who don’t respond no matter what you do for them. Most only wanted one session to “try it out” . I had a business going but I found out 2 things that I want to share with you. Although I did get some referrels from clients, I was surprised at how most people don’t share or talk about it afterwards for whatever reason. There were weeks when I was busy and weeks when I wasn’t. Because people got results fast in many cases , they did not feel the need to come back so I spent half my time trying to get new clients booked. Ending my first year doing this going into the holidays , Nov and Dec , business dried up and put me into a panic ,where I became my own client. My recommendation to anyone thinking about getting into the business is to start PART=TIME and have another source of income or a spouse to support you until you have more bookings then you can handle and have money saved for slow times so you don’t become your own best client. Good Luck !

  28. Hi Nick
I have no problems charging for my services, I am totally on the same wavelength as yourself and your colleagues who will hosting the seminar. I am unable to be there in there flesh but will be with you all in spirit. Hopefully it will be recorded and I will be more than happy to pay for the recording! The work you all do is fantastic and the very fact you make it into products enables people like me in the UK to get it too. ~Wishing you an abundant and extraordinary 2010.

  29. I have no problem with people making money healing and helping others in these types of fields, but there is another side to this that I’ve rarely seen addressed. Often the people who need this most can’t afford it. It becomes very exclusionary. It’s like all the courses for creating financial abundance; If you can’t afford the course you can’t become financially abundant which is to teach you the things you need to know so you can afford the course.
So the answer I usually hear is, well, when you’re ready you’ll find a way or if you really want it you’ll come up with a way to afford it etc.. There may be some to this, but often all people in this situation need it just a little foot up so they think it is possible. Maybe if there were other modes of “payment”, ie. trade etc. Another thing, you read “this is affordable to anyone”, that’s just a stupid statement. Who determines what is affordable, obviously not those that are struggling just to survive.

  30. I find Rani’s comment rather odd. I can understand people’s reluctance to take money for what they think should be valued above crass issues, but in my Reiki training there was no question about it–we were instructed to always be sure we received payment. I realize there are many “branches” of Reiki, but I don’t know of one that says practitioners should offer healing for free. We certainly are willing (as we should be) to pay for our training in whatever healing modality we want to practice. So to say that you feel you don’t “know enough” means that either you didn’t complete your courses satisfactorily or that you don’t have confidence in your teachers. Either way, you can resolve the problem and feel as if you deserve compensation for your services.

I sincerely doubt that anyone would expect to receive a healing massage or a psychic or astrological reading for free. Why should it be otherwise with Reiki and EFT?

  31. Hello Nick,
I do not see the problem, should one exist in the first place. If people want to heal others without charging, that is their prerogative, just as it is the right of those who want to charge for their healing services to do so. People must make up their own minds about what they want to do and may not be dictated to by others. In a perfect world we would all freely share our skills and talents with love the only motive, but unfortunately, this does not pay the bills. Our societies revolve around money and very few people have discovered a way to get along without it. Until the day comes that money is removed from the equation of living, some people will have no option but to charge for their healing talents. Doctors do: I have been charged for services that brought me nothing but the most undesirable side-effects to the drugs I was prescribed and it was up to me to refuse to have a thumb amputated becasue it had become necrotic due to a snake bite. I took my thumb home and treated it myself using honey as a dressing. Four days later it was almost completely healed, so the doctors were of no help in that case, but I still had to pay them for the faulty service they had rendered! I see no problem with charging people for a healing technique that actually rids them of their ailments. If people are morally affected by making others pay for healing, a simple answer is to charge those who can afford to pay and do pro bono work for those who cannot raise the money. That should settle the question.

  32. Hi Nick
WOW could not agree with you more ……
if Doctor’s , pharmacutical companies etc can make money out of healing? and helping people why not us??? ..just beause it’s not recognized by the massess!!! …and this from somebody that was in the medical field for 25 year’s. First as a OR scrub sister and paramedic …the funny thing is/was that allthough I allways wanted to be a nurse …when I did qualify I allways felt that something was missing. I also did not allways see eye to eye with the so called correct medical healing and drugs. Have allways been against drugs in any form ( as our bodies were not ment to absorb drugs and don’t. As you can imagine this used to cause great friction

I allways mainted that so called medicine only did 10% the rest was up to the ” mind ” and the person that this was the ” miracle healing ”
When we moved to the United Kingdom 5 yar’s ago. I could not get registered as a nurse and that was the best thing that could have happened to me. As a result because of ” The Secret ” ..Bob Doyle and through his program Carol Look, Brad Yates etc and later you and Jessica and your program I found my ” Life Passion ” by studyging and becoming a Health & Wellness Coach and helping friend’s and family through working with them and using EFT BUT and here’s the big BUT I was a Mary… in that I found it very difficult to ask for money for my service’s. I had to do a lot of tapping and still do to clear the blocks to actually charging for my service’s I am getting there but it’s taken some time to get my mind set right.
Also we had to live eat and pay the bills.
After all we are really helping people look at their lives in a differnet light and actully giving them hope and healing compared to treatments and drugs that just lead to the next more expensive treatment and drug with no results

So yes let’s get the mind set changed ….the intention is out there and it will happen

  33. I agree completely, Nick. Have seen the same issue reversed in following a Native American Shaman’s teachings. People loved him and he had his basket out quietly, and they barely contributed gas money! Shocking. It’s really very simple: the necessary belief is to give to the source of your good! For me it’s Grandfather Bear Who Talks Much of the Cowlitz Tribe, and it’s also the price of the programs that do me so very much lifechanging good!

  34. Hi Nick!

I am grateful for what you and other EFT-ers are doing out there and support the idea of fair compensation for your work. I’ve learned a great deal through the “free” stuff and continue to practice what I’ve learned with some fabulous results. I would love to see insurance companies cover EFT because being a retired teacher, I honestly can’t afford $75.00 an hour. I think that a lot of people are in the same situation. Yet, the service you are performing is very valuable, and if I had the money, I would gladly pay it. (I’m tapping on my abundance issues!)

  36. Hi Nick: As you indirectly point out the idea of charging money for helping others overcome health issues has many aspects not all of which are immediately obvious. It is easy to understand that this condition, at least in part, is in response to self esteem issues but I believe there are other hidden issues that are not as easy to identify. What is often missing in many of us is a sense of “I can.” Although we may be born with a strong sense of the “possible” we are instilled from birth with the idea that we are victims of our limitations. I suggest that most often the best of our skills and abilities are taken for granted and those areas of lesser skill become the focus of our parents and teachers. Out of love or fear or both they want us to be secure and to “fit-in.” Apart from the “Golden handcuffs” of $45,000/yr., Mary’s issue and an issue among many of us is the feeling sense that we cannot achieve our dreams because we are limited in our abilities. I have the privilege of working with cancer parents many of whom are teaching me that “I can” is a major part of their recovery. Perhaps we should all be tapping to; “Even though in the past I have believed in my limitations (or ______ fill in the blank) I now choose to deeply and completely believe I can do this.”

  37. Hi Nick- you said, “Somewhere along the way, someone, maybe it was parents, teachers, the government, friends, who knows… Came up with the idea that it’s wrong to charge or make any money when working on healing or helping people…” It was Christ who said, ‘freely you have received, freely give”. He charged nothing for healing and helping others. God gives this knowledge freely, and we are to pass it onto others. With that said, St Paul also said, ‘a workman is worthy of his hire’, and he would take donations or ‘tithes’, though I seriously doubt he charged a set fee. To me this is a tricky area. You (generally speaking here) dont have any official education or training. No letters behind your name. This can be a problem in charging proffessional prices. I have a sister in law who’s a psychologist. She charges plenty for her clients. SHe uses hypnosis and is learning EFT. She claims these alternative routes are terrific and vastly important…for the average person But she wonders what happens when an inexperienced practitioner runs into a truly mentally ill person? This is where knowledge and education comes in. If I charge $75 an hour and end up really screwing up with some poor individual, what then?
To me, in my personal opinion, I would do it this way. I would help any and all who want help. I would leave it open to them to donate what they felt it was worth to them. In this way the poor are not intimidated and will come, whereas they wont if I charge $75. Also, you might find you make far more than $75 an hour overall as the wealthy might be so grateful that they gratefully overpay…alot. Like one person said earlier, if someone has spent 10 grand over years for help, and you help them dramatically in 1 or 2 sessions, you might be grossly harming yourself by having a set fee as the person could joyfully give you many times that. I just am concerned that if you charge professional prices that you may have to one day deal with the problems that professionals have such as lawsuits, ect. Maybe just leave it open? Let it be known you gladly accept donations, and give the same heartfelt service to those who cannot pay and those who can pay. Just my personal thoughts, that’s all.
BTW, we love your DVD and donated it to the local library.
Thanks so much for making it. Great work!

  38. I think that this is incredible and so very timely! I actually feel pretty good about the whole idea of paying for or selling things that help heal, but I seem to have a block to actually selling myself and the healing I can offer the world. Any ideas on how to get through that barrier? I know that I have a lot to offer (and am quite sure that there’s a lot more than I’m actually aware of), and I want to help. I even started a new company, but its growing slowly (and I am very thankful that it is growing!) and I really want for it to be sustainable so that I can do it “full time”.

  40. Hi Nick,

I have had money issues that I wasn’t even aware of. In the last 2 days I have realized I’m addicted to debt, my family were always in monetary strife, my former husband spent so much of our money and I had to work hard to have enough money to keep the kids clothed and fed and a roof over out heads and since the miserable divorce I’ve made bad investment choices which have put me in a large amount of credit card debt.

The catch 22 is that with the economy the way it is I can’t borrow enough “bulk” of money to pay it off at a reasonable rate yet I’m paying huge amounts of interest and could easily afford to pay one payment instead of 3 so I guess I now have to retry to figure that one out.

I have an EFT practitioner that I tap with on a fortnightly basis although that may have to change to monthly due to the afore mentioned problem so when we get together on the 14th I can get to the nitty gritty of why I need to feel good by immersing myself in debt. Should be an eye opener that one.

I have cleared away so much “stuff” since I started tapping in about August I should weigh 50lbs lighter with all the stuff that’s been cast away .

I look forward to this development and I certainly charge for my cleaning services and don’t feel at all guilty as I do a great job and my clients are really grateful for it so when I put my fees up there’s no hassles.

    Bye for now, Maureen.

  41. Nick,
When I am involved in healing, I always feel God is the healer. I fell healing is a spiritual activity. That is true for me as I pray, or as I apply Reiki, or as I apply tapping. Doctors heal and they charge lots of money. I may thank God for guiding me to a good Doctor, but I rarely think spirituality is present in the healing they offer. If you get into charging for healing, you might find the Doctors objecting to your infringment. If you think you are the healer because you guide the tapping, then you might find out God is watching too. For me, I will gladly donate my time, talents and other resources to helping others. When you charge money for healing, you will find it reduces your level of spirituality.
    Respectively

  42. First of all, you and your sister have been exceedingly generous with your tapping information and I am deeply grateful for being able to take the ride with you these past few months. If at this pint you need to start making more money at it, go for it. Your ”price point” will select the people you are going to bring into your life to help you financially.

As for me, to the extent we can share freely, this is what I idealize and do. But your title said it all. “A Necessary Shift in Perspective”. There is no need to rationalize or justify further. You need more money? So…go for it! You’ll figure out what is the “right price” to charge.

And don’t think for a moment that the people who need healing that can’t afford what you or others offer aren’t going to get what they need. They will indeed get what they need as they are open to it. Healing will come in some way to those who are open to it. “Mary’s” refusal to charge for tapping sessions and thus her need to keep her current job is NOT going to leave hundreds or thousands out on the streets broken and bereft. They will simply find the way that they are open to and that they can afford. Tapping is a great part of the human healing story but it isn’t the whole story by any means. I’ve done a LOT of self-help work in my life; gone to various types of therapists, done hypnotherapy, tapping, “Touch for Health”, good nutrition, read books, seen movies (even movies not intended to heal but did), listened to CDs, watched and studied the PBS gurus information, studied with Ramtha, Abraham and my Sunday School teachers, subscribed to free newsletters. It’s all great. Some I paid a lot of money for. Some were inexpensive or free. What all of these endeavors showed me is that healing is generated from within.

Good luck with whatever you chose to do. Keep me on your mailing list. I’d like to keep up on what you’re doing. You do it SO well !

This is so weird that you are posting “me” with Mary’s story. Excepting that I do feel that healing modalities are extremely valuable and definitely worth paying for, I find it next to impossible to ask for money. When I do, I wonder if I am asking too much/too little??? Do my fees say something negative to the client?? If I am asking too much, am I chasing clients away and if I am asking too little, do people not take me seriously??

  44. Hi There All Dear People Who Are Reading This,
Listen and look deep in to your minds and hearts, and realise that this issue of money exchange, all comes down to our Self Worth, whether we can ask for money or not. It can also relate to having a pauper state of mind, there is never enough. It is a journey that we can all take some time in our lives ,some way or another. And until we deal with these issues through EFt or other means, it will never rest easy with us charging for our services. Rather than providing Light and Information to the world we will be hanging on to your gifts rather than sharing them, all for the sake of being confortable with asking. Do we not all want the same thing? do we not all want to help people out there, crying out for our assistance? their lives are precious to them, and to us, and they will pay anything to find health, peace and harmony. Do we not all remember being just like them at some time in our lives, crying out for help? As I write this message, I realise I am speaking to myself more than you, and will now make a resolution , to change my way of thinking. When it is all said and done, are we not exchanging one gift for another??? And we all know when the time is right, to give a little more here or there.
Wishing you all well, in Love and Light Judi NZ

  45. Hi Nick, want to thank you for all the good work you are doing with Tapping.

I want to acknowledge that there are many of us who do agree with you. Its not a phenomena specific to healing, though I do get where that comes from. We’ve seen it in our web site design work and photography. Because we do find so many “free” things on the internet and we have become such a Walmart economy, if its not cheap or free I’m not paying for it. Many of us are suffering in our work since it is no longer viewed as worthy of “money” or financial exchange. Even though no one would ever ask a plumber or grocer to provide “free” anything.

For example, with my creativity workshops I will usually offer some scholarships or hardship support. I realize that not everyone is working now and yet everyone can benefit from personal growth workshops. I will usually ask for some form of exchange, could be a handmade item, baked goods just something that shows that this workshops or event has value to that person. Reiki Master Dr. Usui discovered this to be true, when he gave away his healing with no exchange, the healing did not take long term since value was not placed on the work he did. When he started to insist on some exchange appropriate to the person offering it, he saw that people benefited longer from the healing.

For anyone giving away their services, think carefully since this sets a precedence that your services or products do not have value. Better to offer payment plans, hardship support, or a “sampling” to see if it resonates with the person looking to try it.

  46. I am 100% happy with people making millions of dollars doing what they love! Especially when it involves helping others. What I hope is that we can all make millions of dollars doing what we love while including the poor. I don’t see a dichotomy here but I see the potential for a dichotomy, IF people begin to get wrapped up in the idea that volunteerism and helping others without money is “bad”. I currently work with homeless youth, most of who are homeless because of bad family situations. The more enlightened individuals, we have to spend time with these kids, the better. I see that the more monetarily and emotionally successful we all are, the more we have to give to those around us. So yes, let’s make millions of dollars doing what we love and lets share this with people who have yet to achieve this.

  47. Nick,
I am glad that you are talking about this issue. The question I have to those people who feel it is wrong to charge for a service that heals or helps others is, do you feel doctors should provide their services for free? or How do you feel about doctors charging for services that actually is hurting and killing people through drugs, surgery and just covering the symptoms instead of getting to the root of the problem? I too feel a bit guilty for charging for helping others but I am getting over this because I realise that I have a mortgage to pay and other bills too. Why should I give my time and talents away just because people need them? Lawyers and doctors are needed everyday, and I haven’t met too many of them that give away their services, instead they charge more than most other industries. So yeah, it is time for everyone to realise that money is necessary to pay our bills so please be willing to charge for your services/products and be willing to pay for services/products that can help you and don’t feel that people should just offer them for free because you need it. If everything was free, we’d be in heaven…we’re not. Instead we should feel good about providing a great healing service or product and realise that it is okay to receive equal value (money) for equal value (service). I think most people want others to feel good, right? So, what better way to help others to feel good than by buying their product or service? If you agree, perhaps you might click on my name and check out my valuable product. If you purchased it, it would make me feel good. ;)

  48. Hi Nick
I have been using EFT/TFT/EMT etc since 1996 – I am a hypnotherapist and EVERY client that comes thru my practice does EFT. Most are blown away by it and use it. I have been able to change peoples lives significantly using this method and they know up front what my costs are. I just don’t attract people who aren’t willing to pay for my services. 85% of my practice is from referrals. I also do a lot of pro-bono’s. I deserve to be paid for my services and my clients are more than happy to pay for them. When you give your services for free then it isn’t always respected. It’s like “well it’s not costing me anything so it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work” this is not the type of client you want. I absolutely love what I do and I want clients who WANT to make changes to their lives – not tyre kickers.

  49. I agree, and it’s something that I have struggled with, it doesn’t seem right to charge in a way, especially coming from the UK, where healthcare is mainly free of charge. On the one hand, I wouldn’t like for EFT not to be available to those who can’t afford it, but on the other hand, these same people can usually afford to spend the same sort of money on a hairdo, and also some seem to not really value something that is given away as much as when they have to pay. Still an area that I need to do a lot of tapping on I think.
Slightly off the subject, but has it occured to anyone else that there is a huge number of people (and therefore energy) against whose interests it is to have a healthier population – doctors, healthcare professionals, drug companies, lawyers – the list goes on, is there perhaps a large energy field keeping people sick?

The Christian Bible say’s ” A good servant is worthy of his hire.” Also there are other stories about “not muzzeling the ox.” In other words don’t deprive it of it’s incentive to work. there are also other statements that make money out as evil. What’s my motive is a good question? Am I stepping over the line into greed?

  51. Dear Nick,
I enjoyed every minute of the Global Tapping Summit and want to take this opportunity to thank you and Jessica for all your hard work.
I think your blog is right on target, and I have shared it with a colleague in the healing arts (neither of us is professional) who insists it is “immoral and improper” to take money for healing. I hope it helps him understand that a flow of energy (which is all money is!) is necessary, plus a fair exchange for services rendered and received. In addition I am convinced that gifting the facilitator for a healing actually helps make the healing more effective.

  52. Hi Nick,
I’ve been tapping for 12 years now, and am an EFT/MTT Practitioner I’m very proud of the marvelous results my clients and I have attained from this still-cutting-edge-groundbreaking technique. For some stupid reason, because it’s too easy, simple and …. free…..some people just don’t jump on it and use it to change their lives. I do my best to be patient with them and continue to remember Gary’s statements: be persistent and repetitive. I know that that is truly what makes it work! Makes changes! Grows us!
So here’s what I do: I have no problem charging what I am worth, what my delivery and skill and art and craft are worth. I am not just an EFT Practitioner but a whole person with many areas of expertise in multiple fields that I share with others. What I am worth is what people will pay for my services….what it is worth to them. However, I always leave room in my practice for sliding-scale clients who need a hand up right now, haven’t the financial resources to pay, and can and will use the help. This is how I balance my practice and I feel it works for my integrity and philosophy. Oh, yes, I also love doing the work that I do — and spreading the word is my passion! Thanks for listening…..

  53. Hi Nick and all

You certainly opened a can of worms, Nick! Lol! Good for you.

Here’s my take, for what it’s worth.

First, I’m also from the UK and can say that, although the National Health Service is free at the point of service for many, we are all paying for it – doctors and nurses are not donating their services for free. They are being paid. However, because these services are free at the point of service, people do tend to think that they are free … and often abuse them

Second, you are absolutely right – alternative/complimentary therapists have *huge* money issues. We spend all that time, effort and money learning our therapies and then have serious problems charging for our time and energy. It took me several years to get over that … but the result is that my clients actually value what I’m giving them and they don’t take advantage.

Third – and here’s another can of worms for you – we can be at our most effective as therapists only when we do our own work. How can we, for example, help our clients ask for a pay rise at work when we are not willing or able to ask for payment from our clients? The two are parallel issues. Further, how can we help our clients past issues of respect, when we don’t respect ourselves enough to place a value on our work?

To those who suggest that the poor, who need our services the most, can’t afford them and that’s why we don’t see them – I suggest that the poor don’t come to us very often because they don’t know how to take responsibility for their own health and thus they prefer mainstream health services. I do know this from my own experience, having offered group work for many years at very accessible prices – and this is also the experience of my friends and colleagues.

Until we are willing to place a value on our work, we will never be taken seriously by clients *or* by the health industry. Why would they take us seriously if we don’t?

  54. Well, it is my story, too. I have been quite a successful massage practitioner 10 years ago and gave it up for a more lucrative position in education. Although, I like the steady income, I feel trapped. I have also just given up a network business because of the constant ‘contrast’ when selling. I have not found a way to resolve this for me. People, friends tell me how good I am with treatments. Now I have found tapping with amazing results, it would be great but I don’t dare because I am afraid to be poor! Yes, I am ready to tap my fears in this area away! It feels a bit as if this might be the change in my life I have been (secretly) looking for.

  55. My five cents;

Money does not grow on trees and my passion to help people who need help mean that whereas I agree that my “services” deserve a renumaration there are just not enough people there who have such funds.
I try to get resources from entities that allow for parts of funds to be used to support people in need. Such as Nick’s promotion to purchase a book/DVD combo to allow someone to get a free copy etc etc. I have purchased a couple of copies of the DVD/book package to enable donations to people who cannot purchase these items and desperately need these resources.
Flipside of helping others for free is that I do not have the financial resources to access the help I need to maximise my resources and look after me let alone all the other people.
On the other hand, I do have a home and a car that is reliable (far from new but does the job), food on the table and access to water etc and I still can help other people for free.
    The canundrum persists…….

  56. What a “topical” topic. I am really struggling with this on the consumer end. It seems that everywhere I turn, people are trying to sell me something in the health field. Without naming names, I have two good friends who are positive that what they are selling (both in MLM situations) are the best, the only, the way and the truth (to coin a phrase). I believe wholeheartedly in tapping and in EFT, but I think the general public is so braced against being “sold to” as I am, they don’t trust what they hear. I know I don’t…AND I hate the feeling that someone is trying to sell me something. This is what I am coming up against right now.

  57. I, too, was lucky enough to start tapping just when the world summit came about. I skeptically listened and was amazed by the results. I have been talking to SO many people about tapping and trying to encourage them. I bought “Try It On Everything” immediately after the summit. I work with an EFT practitioner and I paid to join the Tapping Insiders Club. I also bought an abundance download on line. I have spent money on tapping . I hope someday to be able to incorporate it in to my work and make some money doing it!
When I saw the seminar being offered in March, I got so excited! Then, I saw the price. I had a horrible reaction to that price. The first thing that came up for me was, Gary is retiring and now EFT is going to become out of reach. No more gatekeeper. I kept that reaction to myself because I felt that it was MY conditioning and MY issues about money that was coming up. I also felt bad because there is no way that I can spend that for a conference and I would love to attend one. However, I was willing to accept that perhaps it was my issue. Now, you are asking for our opinion about charging and this is my response. For your sake, I hope you sell out your seminar. For my sake, I hope that there continues to be affordable and free EFT training available. Thanks for asking.

  58. Hi Nick
Thank you so much for having the courage to start this conversation. I am fascinated by the level of emotion that money evokes! The point I want to make is that in my experence as a life coach it is extremely important to role model what it is that I want to pass on to my clients. This has challenged me as i too have had many of the concerns/issues expressed by others in this blog. However I have now come to see that in my situation, not charging clients has a number of associated messages and integrity issues that I am not comfortable with. If i don’t charge for what I am offerring no matter what it is, how can I encourage people to charge for theirs. I have noticed a shift in my level of personal responsibility in what I am delivering when I charge compared to when I don’t (this i believe I would never have known without comparing experiences). As Margaret Lynch includes in her tapping program – it is about who I have to become in order to ask for payment (or put another way meet my bigger financial goals). I wonder if this is what people are weighing up. I know that for myself charging clients and having money goals have made me a much better person and life coach. I focus on doubling the value I am offerring my clients in creative ways, (discovering more about myself and my God given talents) i ask more of myself and I am forced to define what I offer and sometimes more importantly what I don’t offer so that I don’t mislead my paying clients and they can make an informed decision. The way I now see it, the clarity that charging clients ultimately created has benefitted my clients immeasurably and i believe I now actively demonstrate more respect for them and myself. I notice that my fee paying clients invest a lot more into the process themselves (self-reflection, honesty and time) and therefore get a lot more out of it. In some ways not charging is not showing them the way out of self-defeating or compromising patterns (I cannot live with that), not offerring clients the opportunity to demonstrate to themselves that they are of value and not addressing the issues associated with committment. Don’t get me wrong I give a lot of services and information away for free and enjoy that immensely but I choose what i offer and how I offer it – factoring in formats that are less expensive where appropriate.
thank you for the opportunity to join in this wonderful conversation.

  60. Great issues, Nick. Here’s the heart of the matter, as I see it. For just about anything you can name, product or service, you pay money and you get something you intend to get for it. If you go to a restaurant and order a meal that never comes, you don’t pay for it. If you take your car to a mechanic and they don’t fix the problem, you can take it back for a re-fix. And so on —with the one HUGE exception of health care. If you go to a doctor to be cured and they don’t cure you, or they make you worse, you pay anyway. If you go to a healing practioner and they don’t solve the problem you came for, you pay anyway. As someone dealing with cancer, I can attest that I have paid a whole lot of practioners who have not healed the cancer. I am not blaming them – ‘though of course I wish they’d been able to help. No one in my position would object to paying $1000 for a 1-hour session if they were healed! Isn’t it time we began considering a results-oriented pricing system for health care???

  61. Hi Nick,
I am enjoying all the comments to your great blog post almost as much as your post. :-) I was just having a conversation about charging for spiritual services yesterday. It was in light of the problems James Ray is having with the sweat lodge deaths in AZ under his watch . Right after the tragic deaths, he sent out an e-mail to all on his list stating he was going to continue with business as usual so as not to compound the problem of people paying for workshops or events and having them cancelled. (I guess he didn’t realize he could refund their $$!) The Ray attitude feels dirty to me and it feeds my own disdain for mixing “God and mammon” as the Bible says.

In addition to that issue, I think it is hard to charge money for esoteric services when we don’t have initials after our name. But when you realize how much astrologers earn for a reading, it doesn’t make sense to restrict ourselves in asking for a fair exchange for sharing our understanding/knowledge of the healing arts. However, if we don’t label our work “healing” then people aren’t as likely to equate it with medical services. It is more a teaching service to relieve stress and provide tools to achieve spiritual and emotional goals. Right?

I appreciated what you said about being abundant financially and how it enables us to also give abundantly, which increases our own spiritual and material abundance. If we just focused on that part, I think we could break out of the “Mary feeling not worthy enough to charge” syndrom.

I love the work you are doing and the spirit in which you and Jessica are doing it. Thank you,
    Shirley

  62. Hi Nick, When Verena and I started our practice nearly 10 years ago we charged only $50 per hour and at first were afraid to put our charges up. Man, I’m glad we cleared that one.
If we hadn’t Id still be “stuck” in a job that didn’t suit me, probably manefesting a range of health issues (Like our bodies tend to do when we don’t move foreward.) And most of the thousands of people who have benefited from our EFT workshops, coaching and therapy would still be struggling.
An early lesson came for us when one client, a single parent with drug issues who we had been treating at a discounted rate, cancelled 2 sessions without notice. A few weeks later she flounced in showing off $270.00 dress that she had bought in while on holidays Noosa! At the time couldn’t afford new clothes or a holliday.
Verena and I looked at each other…. “We paid for the dress and the holliday.” was our common thought.
Since then, each time we increased our charges two things happenned
    1 We attracted more clients.
2 Our clients achieved better results.

So why would charging more give better results?
What we charge reflects our inner self worth and shows this self worth to the world.
We’ve all at some time bought something cheap and later regretted it becalse it lacked quality. Many of us have also seen something we thought we wanted, then seen a low price and thought ” It can’t be any good. Must be cheap junk.”
So when the price “hurts” just a bit we tend to value the product or service more.
Before starting our practice I wanted to resolve my own issues. I flew interstate and paid big $ to get what I felt I needed. To do that, I maxed out my credit cards and borrowed from friends. I really wasn’t comfortable about that, but because it hurt a bit financially I made sure I took responsibility and followed through. The results transformed my Health, relationships and finances.
Even back then (1998) I couldn’t imagine being able to resolve my financial and relationship issues working with someone who was earning less than me and wasn’t in a good relationship. That’s why a significant part of our EFT Level 2 & 3 workshops includes working on money issues and being comfortable at “Selling” your services.
Does that mean you have to be greedy? No. Of course not, we still do monthly free workshops, and I’ve been known to tap or do hypnosis with people I meet on trains, planes, shopping centres, wherever. And having the money allows us to support good charities. You can’t give what you haven’t got.
So lets all make heaps of money with tapping and with whatever other approaches you enjoy using. Its much better to making money doing something that enriches our world than something that degrades it. With tapping everyone benefits.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, prosperous and loving new year.

  63. Nick: As a former director of a small non-profit (the least paid director of a non-profit in all of Seattle!) , then a Realtor in the hey day, and after the market “shifted”, now I’m living my DHARMA as a Life Coach in my first year of building my biz. I’m a tapping fan, but not yet trained. It’s on my to do list… (My husband was in a car accident –rearended–two major surgeries and out of work for over a year! Finances and credit scores are shot at our house w/ a stack of medical bills! I sooo appreciate what you have to say!! It’s so true — I’ve been struggling with my own limiting beliefs re: exactly what you are talking about and YES I’ve been tapping away about it. So much better!! But I totally support what you are saying! Who made the rules that because we do good work we must live in poverty? And yes, with the amount of money being spent on lobbyists to fight health care, Mary shouldn’t feel bad about charging $75/ hour!! From this moment on I’m a big fan of yours! And when I start making more money, and the house and car payments are made, I promise to buy the documentary!!! Keep up the great work!!! Gwen

  64. Hi Cindy,

Thanks for sharing your reaction, it’s an important one to note, and here’s how I would approach it: Not everything is for everyone, and that’s OK! There’s been times when there’s been plenty of things that are out of reach financially for me, and I’ve learned to look at them and appreciate them.

If I see a car on the street that I want to drive, but can’t afford it, my response now is to appreciate it rather than condemn it. This particular seminar is really great for people that want to focus on their business and taking it to the next level, so it might not be for everyone. And the wonderful thing about free will and choice is that the people that it’s best for right now will choose to attend and others won’t.

I remember when I first went to a Tony Robbins seminar 10 years ago, I put everything on a credit card. It was money I didn’t have but I knew I had to go. If you saw what I ended up putting on a credit card from all the different conferences, you’d gasp! Now, I wouldn’t advise that strategy for everyone, but for me, it worked and made a tremendous difference in my life.

If anything, what I hope people realize from this discussion is that the best thing we can all do is take the “emotional charge” out of the situation, the beliefs, the discussion. Let people do what they want to do, without feeling anger, hurt or resentment. If someone charges something that you don’t think is worth it, don’t buy it! If you don’t like an offer, delete it. But do so with love and appreciation for your feelings about it and the intention behind it.

All too often we are WAY too quick to judge and form immediate opinions. When you find that happening, use it as an opportunity to tap. :)

    I hope this helps.

    much love,
    Nick

  66. As an EFT pro with vast experience, let me tell you that if you don’t charge for your services , you will attract needy people who have 1000 issues to work on and will suck your energy dry. I wonder if it is a coincidence that the people I did not get results with , did not pay me for the session and they felt they wasted their time and I felt frustrated and less then positive from the time I spent. I have an agreement with God. if anyone around me is suffering or needs help, I help them. If someone calls me and is suffering and needs help and can’t pay, i will help them through their emergency just to be of service. They vow they will pay me when they get on their feet but it rarely occurs. I do keep leverage on them and make them think I am doing them a huge favor so they will follow through. I am tough in this regard. This is part of their healing. If they lose the vibe of overwhelming graditude to you , the APEX factor kicks in and then you are taken for granted. If you don’t believe me , work on some broke desperate people and you will see. There is a reason why they are that way. A word to the wise.
Be generous to people and that includes yourself as well.

I often check the Forbes billionaires list and so far I have not seen anyone in it who has made their money through self development or healing although I at least expected Tony Robbins to make it, but no. I predict that the first healer to achieve a billion in this way will make the second billion easily. And I am sure that many of the hundreds of gurus that have been telling us about The Secret and such things (for decades some of them) have had the billion figure in mind but they have failed. How? Why did they fail? Why are they still failing?

  71. Hi Nick and other people reading this,

I agree with what you say. It is more then OK to earn money by doing a good thing for other people and for the world. This has made me look in to some of the Internet Marketing principles (Marketing used to be a dirty word for me, tap, tap, tap,…) And it has been a hard nut to crack putting marketing and spirituality together.

Now, after reflecting and tapping on it a lot, I came to the conclusion that doing marketing in an ethical way is impotant for me. There are some marketing techniques that involve lieing to people, tricking people in to buying, bombarde them with mails,…. and even with a lot of tapping, this stil doesn’t seem right to me. I don’t think that the sale justifies everything, just because you sell something you think is ‘good’ for somebody. People still have the right to decide what is good for them and shouldn’t be pushed or tricked.

At first it got me really angry, when I saw spiritual people do this (tap, tap, tap). Now I think, it is just something I choose to do differntly and leave it be. By reading everything here, I justed wanted to add my opinion here.

About EFT itself: I think it is really important that the basic information on how to use EFT should be completly free for everybody. This is the strenght of EFT, it is so simple anybody can use it. And it works. This is why it is spreading around the globe so fast. (there is no cleaver martketing magic doing this, in my opinion). But if you add value to basic EFT, like coaching, asking the right questions, your time,… I don’t see why you shouldn’t charge for that. I always ask myself the question: what value do I add here? And then decide what it is worth. Then I do the marketing: just letting people know what I do, talk to them, and if they welcome what I offer, we have a match. That’s howI blend marketing with spirituality.

    Blessings,

    Linda

  72. Hey, Nick – great you brought up this topic. Yes, money exchange is absolutely necessary for this work! I and my client, both of us, express how much we honour ourselves and a life in total balance. There is giving and receiving – they both work together.
Enjoy your visions and their realizations – and, of course, charge for the commitment and passion you manifest in this reality- Love, Lin

  73. I just got a eureka moment when I read that how much you charge reflects your self worth. I thought I was the only idiot who was not charging but I can see there are many. I have, today, made a pledge to start charging this new year as the help and support I give justifies me to charge money for my sessions. For those who still do not want to charge clients, then here is a suggestion – ask him/her to help you out in situations where you need help i.e it could be websites, plumbing, painting, advertising, referrals etc. Charging strangers is easier than charging friends/family members so ask them for referrals.

Nick you are really an inspiration to all of us. Thank you for sharing your insights.

  74. All thought provoking comments on a touchy subject. Several of the EFT Practitioners listed in Gary Craig’s directory indicate payment only required if the client gets results, an interesting approach to the process. Our society assumes that paying large amounts of money to highly trained people will result in healing and that the responsibility for the healing is with the drs. What rubbish. Yes, we need to charge and overdeliver in our services, so people leave feeling good, and feeling self-empowered, not dependent on fancy degrees on the wall and high prices. We all need to take our power back and EFT is the way to do it.

    Comment by Dena — January 6, 2010 @ 6:54 am

  75. I do not think it is right to charge. Granted if it is free, people will value it less. The point is that I do the process for my own growth.

    Comment by Steven Garland — January 6, 2010 @ 7:43 am

  76. I have no problems now with charging for my healing. I’ve been a therapist for 19 years and have had to learn to value myself financially as well as internally.
However Tapping about my limiting beliefs around money has helped move me on from the ‘I can only charge this amount’ to ‘this is what I value myself and my skills at’. There is a difference, a big difference. And its where your belief about money keeps you; you may be very happy with a satisifactory income and your beliefs about being rich, dont fit with your belief about being okay. We have a whole stack of historical and cultural beliefs about being rich, then again you might want to be rich and charging others to get rich fits well, but maybe those who struggle with being rich and good, could use money to do good stuff with. The true value of money is the change you can make by using it and to use it you need to aquire it.
If people are happier not charging thats fine by me, but give free sessions because if fits with your beleif about how you WANT to live your life and notbecause you dont beleive in yourself.

Good luck and happy tapping to all

  78. Thank you for your incredible movie. I watched it last Wednesday and have been using it daily several times a day. Recently diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica, I went from being as fit as a 30-y/o (at age 5l) to feeling like a 90-yr old woman. I have been in so much pain at night especially that I couldn’t imagine going on living. I refuse to take Prednisone. I was taking 2400-mg of Ibuprofen a day and after two days of tapping, I got down to 800-mg.
Each night the pain is still bad, but has improved dramatically. I was not able to do anything and now for the most part of the day, I am functional again. I realize that my physical symptoms are a direct result of my extreme emotional state leading up to my body crashing.
The Tapping Solution DVD is worth a million dollars to someone like me. I know that I too have trouble asking for money. Since I am an Herbalife Distributor, that is not a good thing. I can’t wait until your next movie comes out “Turning Passion Into Profit”. Thank you for your honest sharing. I appreciate it immensely. Very Sincerely, Kim Schaefer, Kauai, Hawaii

  79. Thank you for putting this message out here, Nick! Reading through all 76 of the posts and the post gives me such a good vibe of the honesty, integrity and personal worth of the EFT community as represented here. I’m proud to belong to a spirited group of individuals who think about what they do, care about their work and want to aehieve results. This is major! No matter that each one has a different take (I’ve been averse to tapping for abundance until today!) on whether and how much to charge, the point is that to consider, reflect and act on our best thinking is okay. The outcomes represent proactive service to community and self. So what if one persons vibration attracts money easily and another has to struggle with establishing a fee. The main thing is that no institution whether medical, pharmaceutical, security or political can honestly said to ‘own’ integrity, ethical practice and a place on the healing highrise as much as Energy and Meridian therapists/practitioners who have coined this lovely quirky concept of being “EFT’ers”. Thank you for what you do – it is timely, personable and carries with it the vibrancy of youth!

  80. Nick-
I totally agree with you! I am so glad you are hosting this conference. This energy needs to be released into the masses. I also am an energy healer. Through numerous personal circumstances in my life I do not have any source of income except through the “work” that I do. I could get a job with a steady paycheck, but it would not be fulfilling and I would not make much more than I make now. I work part-time (with clients) with most of my time being used to gain new clients. I have no back account to fall back on, no ability to get any credit. All I have is myself and my energy, so marketing is done very creatively. I have been working on building my clientele so I could sustain myself for over 6 years now. I live very modestly and still am not able to make a living, but I am determined to continue. I will perservere and not give up (I was a stay at home mom for over 25 years, and was thrown into being on my own). I will be coming to this conference! I have a deficit every single month, and right now have a negative balance with no money. I know I will be there! I don’t see it, but I know this is something I need to propel me to the next level. Anyone who wants to comment negatively I would just say to them it’s not for you, so walk away…don’t rain on our parade who really feel this is what we need and a tremendous blessing. I am also believing to bring my son with me. We have just started a new business together and I believe we both will have changed lives after the conference. I know I am called to help “MILLIONS”, I am excited!! I have been and have seen clients who do not have an ability to pay for things. I can tell you from personal experience the things that I really “needed” to receive or attend that I had no money for…everyone of them came to me, either through money, gifting, or whatever means. Either the money or a way to do it without the money. I didn’t get everything I “wanted” to do. There is a big difference here between what we need and want. I have also seen people who will sit and complain to you about how they don’t have money for your services, and in the next sentence will talk about their vacation or shopping trips. It all comes down to our choices. There are a very small slim few who have absolutely no resources for services, but the majority of the people who complain and say they have none “choose” to spend money elsewhere. There is a mindset around not only from practitioners who don’t feel worthy of charging but the general public who doesn’t feel we are worth what we do charge. I feel it all boils down to selfishness. People will spend money on and invest in meaningless things and/or things they want, i.e. spend $85 for a concert, etc. I worked with a girl once who didn’t have a job, lived on assistance, really desperately needed my services and had “no” money to pay me. At about our second session she was talking about getting a new tattoo. I don’t believe the tattoo people would work for free, or anyone would ever think to ask them to. I think because we use services that change emotions and energy it’s not something tangible to take home. You can’t put your new changed life in a box on the mantel to show off. The ones who truly want help will find a way, the others want us to fix them and don’t place a value on how profound of work this can be. So I guess my comment is to all of you who keep posting what about the poor individual who can’t afford it. If your services are what they need; or if you are one of those people in need of help…you will find a way if it’s what you need. You may “want” it, but it’s not what you need. We all need to slow down and think, not only about ourselves but others. My greatest desire is to help others. Instead of saying we shouldn’t charge because of poor and poor whoever why not change the mindset to I can charge and than will have the ability to share my abundance with others. I came across someone who said she desperately wanted my services for her young son. I offered to barter with her, gave her my card and all I asked was that she call me. That was 2 years ago…I’m still waiting for the phone call. So the lesson here is to look within yourself. If you are having strong emotions from Nick’s post on either side, whether you “feel” it or not…this conference is for you! Maybe you need to tune into your “feeler” to find what you need not want! See you there!!

  81. this is all well. By my own experience a fee has to coffer my expences and provide me with a basic income. If I want to become rich, well, then this is not the right profession for me. Working with people and to help them improve their own life gives me more than money can do. And I do agree, life becomes worthless, if it is centred around money.
Money is not the goal / direction of my life, it is well down the rankings.
    And, greatfulness creates more happiness…

  82. Hi Nick, This is a valuable group conversation I think. I am a group psychotherapist in the UK and I plan to pass on a 6 page version to colleagues crystallising the points that catch my attention as summarised here.
Starting with Teresa’s concern, (Jan 5 2:01pm) ‘Please don’t milk EFT…’ and the very interesting response from Nick (2:17pm) that suggests the DVDs will still be available from either The Foundation Library for $150 or the Honours Library for $210, and that the manual is still SOLD on Amazon. That is good news. Then jumping down to Cindy (Jan 5th 7:17pm), and I did appreciate the warmth in Nick’s reply (9:42pm) to her, Cindy raises the hope that there continues to be affordable and free EFT training available after Gary Craig’s website, http://www.emofree.com closes in March. The internet is a terrific source, I find. This morning a tapping treasure dropped through via my email, ‘Our Thoughts Count…’ from Carol Look, which considers, ‘Negative thoughts can ruin a perfect day in no time at all…’ see http://www.attractingabundance.com Newsletter issue 124. Rue Hass runs monthly free teleclasses at http://www.intuitivementoring.com. In the UK all the masters I think have their own websites and many have newsletters with other links, see Judy Byrne, Jaqui Crooks, Gwyneth Moss, Ann Ross, plus Linda Wood – who, though not a master she came just after the Masters training was disbanded, hasn’t stopped presenting her unique contributions around surrogate tapping. Linda, and all the EFT masters mentioned here with many more have written chapters in ‘EFT and Beyond’ published in 2009 by Energy Publications Ltd. which if you can afford nothing else is my number one recommendation for developing knowledge of some of the tools and practitioners at the cutting edge now.
Five other response I’d like to mention.
Many of my colleagues use a sliding-scale of fees charged to clients, similar perhaps to how Nancy Polites (Jan 5th 5:51pm) works. Russell Cunningham (Jan 5th 10:16) mentions an early lesson which made me smile! Haven’t we all sometimes gifted something to those who already have more than they seem to indicate? He says, “ ‘We paid for the dress and the holliday’ was our common thought.” There are some people like this here in Brighton.
Ros (Jan 5th 7:44pm) writes of the importance of charging, ‘…I ask more of myself and I am forced to define what I offer and sometimes more importantly what I don’t offer so that I don’t mislead my paying clients and they can make informed decisions.’ I agree. Tod’s (Jan 5th 3:28pm) sister raises a very important concern of mine. ‘…what happens when an inexperienced practitioner runs into a truly ill person? IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO WORK WITHIN OUR COMPETENCE, and to be suitably insured where necessary. Much as I would like to conduct groups openly and make them widely available to those who are interested, using a meridian tapping and group dynamic approach, I have to be mindful of the safety for the group as a whole aware of issues for people individually and may well ask each to agree to a Statement of Responsibility. For the uninitiated, not every prospective client behaves as we might imagine. Glenn Ackerman (Jan 5th 11:21pm) shares some wisdom about this.
I regard this discussion as training for free, stimulating and thought provoking. Much gratitude to everyone.

  84. You are absolutely right…at sooooo many levels! Because we are gifted, experienced, or just plain passionate about what we have learned and want to share it, we want everyone to experience it. I use EFT for all my clients…whether it is Bioenergy Healing or Intuitive Coaching and get great results. One of the things I do is offer one day a month of Free Bioenergy sessions. In that I am able to quiet the doubt that I am TAKING to much for myself. I have invested a great deal of time and money into becoming the diverse healer I am. I do not feel I deserve it…I feel I have earned it!
Congratulations to you on the great success and may the abundance flow in all areas of your life!

  85. Hi Nick,

I am a newbie to tapping. Was introduced to it less than a year ago. I am grateful for your work( and your sister’s!), that of Brad Yates, Carol Look, recently Margaret Lynch and throughout it all the pioneering work of Gary Craig was referenced which I also have availed myself to.
Just before Christmas I was directed to a site in which Gary announced his retirement.

Point to all of this, I read in Gary’s blog how disenchanted he had become with people making money from tapping and helping others .

My point, and why I write today, is that I was somewhat taken aback by his comment and your email today allows my thoughts towards same to be heard.

No disrespect intended…Gary’s comment just did not sit right for me.

I am so grateful to all of you for continuing to share with me the magic of the tapping world and grateful also for letting me pay money for same.

Paying for services rendered is simply one way a satisfied client can say….thank you….which I do to all of you more times than you know…

All of you as well, have offered a healthy balance of free material as well.

Continue to do what you do in the tapping world and take good care…and I mean financially..of those who depend on you. It goes beyond deserving…you have more than earned it.

  86. Hi Nick,
Great blog. It has opened up a hornets nest for some people.
Nick, I am just starting a part time EFT business, I will be full time later this year. My full time job is in sales, selling to locksmiths. Locksmiths know how to charge for their services…… 100% mark up on the product they buy from me plus whatever they value their skill and training at… in New Zealand its something like $75 -$80 an hour plus travel time plus call out fee. Fit good quality locks so you don’t use locksmiths too often!
My point is, if we have done the training, watch the DVD’s, put the time into ourselves, value our skill and ourselves, then we can charge for our services. We are providing a baluable service to society.
If some still have a problem with this, then ask your client to pay what they would pay to visit their hair dresser. If they pay $150 each time they have their hair done, you’ve done ok for your hour or so of working with them, if it’s only $50, then thats ok too.
Personally, $75 sounds fine to me.
All the best to you all,
    Royd

  87. Nick and everyone,
I have just read back over some of the comments made and I feel that there is some confusion here around healing and spirtuality…… in many cases we are healing using the bodies naturally occuring energy feild… it is a physical, measurable, electrical force that is so much a part of who we are that it effects our solid, and therefore more measurable parts (joints, organs, muscles etc)and our emotions. If we can and are healing such physical parts, as a physician does, how is it spiritually wrong to charge for it? Do doctors or naturopaths feel wrong about charging?

  88. I have no qualm about practioners charging money to cover all their business expenses. But I do find some objection when they charge like a wounded bull and somehow forget their ideal of helping people. What if there are people who really need help but are so poor financially that they cannot afford to pay for the help they need so badly. I was once told “if I am positive the Universe would supply my need” and I agree sometimes miracles do happen. But also one has to be realistic, that sometimes the charges are far too exorbitant and only the very few well to do can afford to pay their overblown charges. The bottom line is that there has to be a balance when fixing charges for services rendered.

  89. Hi Nick,
Interesting you should send me this mail. I have just advertised to hold a 2 day workshop on EFT and am arranging others to follow. I to have decided to do what I am passionate about instead of just working for money. It is thanks to tapping that I am achieving this and I am soooo excited to have made that great big leap. As large chasims can’t be jumped in a number of small jumps or you fall in, there comes a time to take that great big leap of faith and I am so proud of myself for doing just that. I know it is going to work for me as i am not having any doubts and if any arise I will tap them away. Many thanks for all your support.

  90. Hi Nick, thanks for the chalenge.
My opinion and experience is this: money can only be freeing if everyone has (enough of) it. To me, the only true abundance is planetary. I can only live (w)holy when the whole world is the hole whirled. No, just kidding. I mean that if you wish to make people happy with money, you sure may start by making me happy with your money.
Money always comes from someone. True abundance is realy something else than having lots of cash. The need for having money in the bank has a lot to do with FEAR. Fear of not having enough in the future, fear of the future. Living in abundance and grace will come if we all GIVE, if we all use our talents for the highest good of all, and share everything we have and can. Then we are free. That’s how I live, and it works fine. It doesn’t mean I hate money, I love it. It has its own spirit. I love to honour it and bless it with right use. When we allow ourselves to be open-hearted and open-handed, giving our money as our guidance tells us, tithing, to charities, individuals or whatever, then we all naturaly prosper.
It’s good to free ourselves from our fears with tapping, but when we’re done doing that, we are only ready with the personal level. It means we then are ready for the planetary level. And there we free each other.

  92. For me it is obvious that you must charge money for a healingsession as well as for any other way or job where you invest your energy. It is all about balance. An other funny thing is that people appreciate the result more if they have to give something for it. Think of the doctors, the specialist who charges 400$ for a session is often much more estimated than the one who carges only 80$.I have heard people say: “how come that he is so cheap, perhaps his is not so skilled?” That about doctors.
Anyway, money is energy and what is given away has to come back for the balance, and balance is the most important issue in everything. EFTcreater Gary Craig teaches economi and healing in a wonderful way in his DVDs as well.

  93. Hi Nick,

this really hit a chord -I am that ex-administrator – setting off down the path – I have returned to college and am learning the whole method behind meridian therapies intending to specialise in reflexology and eft and feeling the guilt thing. Its making me want to sign to up more and more training in the belief that if I have more pieces of paper to say I’m really good then I wont feel bad about charging. Thankfully we have and amazing tutur who is an ex-practitioner and knows the whole show and can guide us to the path we choose – but the conflict is still there. Yet – I happily pay for my EFT sessions – even when the money (and it often is!) hard to come by – as it improves and continues to do so , my life, my hope and my realities.

I listened to the Tapping World Summit for free…..it was so awesome and wonderful, that I immediately went on and bought it, because I didn’t want to lose the sessions after the Summit was over. I know EFT for about 5 years now, and I listen to Carol Look and Rick Wilkes all the time on their podcasts. I read the EFT newsletter from Gary Craig routinely. I salute what you are doing, Nick and Jessica. It is such a valuable resource, and can indeed collapse decades old problems in a very short time. Keep it up!

  96. Dear Nick,
Happy 2010 to you. I have multiple avenues and don’t know which one to pursue. I was a Mary before, who GAVE AWAY alot for nothing in return. I felt good, however I was poor and I did suffer, becoming homeless for a period. I suffered emotionally as well and still am trying to recover the self-esteem I lost. I really appreciate your determination and enthusiasm, as it matches what I have been trying to accomplish with the ideas I have. I am doing all the work solo and with a very active 8 year-old, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day. I have just made a huge physical move, from Los Angeles, CA to Delhi, CA. Please if you could, write to me at 16385 Delhi Avenue Delhi, CA 95315. I tap infrequently right now. However, I have specific goals that I want to achieve this year. Right now, I am typing from a computer at the library, as I am still working on getting a home computer up and operational. My name is Rachel Rizal. Thank you so much for anything you can provide.

Keep inspiring the Tapping Community :)

  98. Hi Nick,

I agree with your post and you put your point accross really. I think you have successfully combined giving and receiving and that is what I try to do. I also admire Gary for his genorosity and loving spirit. I will always appreciate the gift he has given and the time he has invested in getting EFT out to the world but as you say he charges for his book and DVDs (and rightly so).

I have spent a lot of money and invested a lot of time learning about EFT and tapping. I bought all Gary Craigs DVDs and then trained to level 3 standard. I have bought and read lots of books on energy healing and related topics and each year do further training courses and this all costs money. I listened to every interview during the Tapping World Summit (thank you Nick and co!) I trained to become a Life Coach and learned NLP which works brilliantly with tapping. I have done this to make sure I give good value for money and keep up to date with any new techniques I may wish to incorporate into my sessions. I have also spent time and money on my own healing journey and blocks to abundance (and still on the journey!)

I am committed to and passionate about energy healing but I need to eat!! I charge a fair price for my sessions and I am always happy to give some extra time to close a session or talk on the telephone to clients or people just ringing to find out about tapping. I tap for family and friends and then teach them to tap for themselves. I have given greatly reduced priced sessions when I know someone is not able to pay full price, but I always make a small charge. With the amazing (and fast) healing results tapping brings how can this be unfair? Charging money does not make Practitioners greedy, it is all about balance and the exchange of energy and love.

  99. You’re right it is about balance and about energy. Energy takes many forms all forms and all those different manifestations of the same energy are relevant to all existence to all beings. There will be healers who will work for money there will be healers who will work for other forms of energy. The people are that feel comfortable with paying for healing there are people who will accept a healing only when money is absent as a form of energy. There are as many doors to the evolution of humanity as there are humans. it is perfect to feel comfortable with receiving money for an effort you make in the direction you believe is improvement. It is perfect to feel comfortable with other forms of energy received for an effort made in the direction one believes to be improvement. Encourage people to feel comfortable we whatever their hearts intuition instinct and intelligence indicates them for they are unique and their solution their balance is unique. a story of my own : a young woman who believed energy medicine, EFT and other Meridian techniques are the birthright of each human being like reading and writing. she refused to go private insisting that her knowledge and capacities are to be of national importance and her salary for teaching in the School classes of children that knowledge should be paid by the government and the integrated into what we consider as obvious. In the refusal to deny her intuitive instinctive discomfort with the marriage of money and healing she has transformed the concepts of many around her and created a new perspective for many who this world of energy medicine was a parallel world.

  100. Hi, wonderful range of comments, thanks to all of you. The range of your comments leaves me thinking: what exactly is the issue? Those that charge for there services make a charge, those that are able to give freely or at reduced cost do that. The only problem to me is if any body in those camps either feels guilty about what they do, or feels the people in the other camp is undermining or devaluing what they do. Please get over it! Thanks to people like Gary and Nick and all the others in front line of these healing techniques, you have the knowledge to help you chill and accept, start tapping!

  105. Hi Nick
What wonderful information – and so many EFT practitioners I have worked with in business mentoring have the same “Mary complex” you talked about. We all deserve good things in life and the sooner we get that, the more nurtured we will be – and the more nurturing we can be to others.

I recently moved to what I call paradise – mid north coast of NSW in Australia. I wanted to rent until I got to know the area really well and some rentals – well, they’re not exactly my dream house. So I tapped on “Even though I don’t deserve my dream house, I honor and accept who I am.” I did this until a voice roared up within me and said, ‘I DO deserve my dream house.” Well, you can see the results if you visit me. Dream house is right – salt water pool, 8 acrea, close to beaches and town, private, old colonial restored – and I got it at a very good price after some negotiating.

There are many different ways to use EFT in our lives. I’ve been studying and practising EFT for over ten yearss now and truly appreciate all the different voices and ways of working with EFT that you bring forward. Keep up the good work. And if you wanna come visit, I am in a very beautiful and luxurious dream house……….

  108. Hello Nick,
I believe it is absolutely necessary that a 2-way exchange occurs in the helping / healing process. Energetically there is an exchange from one to another when healing or help is offered / given. The reciever of this healing / help is just that: they are the reciever which means that they have gained – however big or small. They are aware of this on many levels: conscious, unconscious, spiritually, energetically (call it what you will). They will become depleted, guilty, uncomfortable, embarassed, disengaged on some level… if they do not or are not able to offer an exchange in return for this help / healing. I am still in debate myself as to whether this has to be a financial exchange. I think it is important to take athe bigger picture into account and work on a case by case basis. Perhaps what is an equitable exchange for one may not be for another? Does the exchange always have to be a monetary one? These are questions that I am yet to answer myself. I have days of clarity and others where there seems so many variables. I am open to learning more and challenging myself on this.
    Warm regards
    Kate

    Comment by Kate — January 12, 2010 @ 6:15 pm

  109. Hi Nick
I don’t think it’s that important whether you are paid money for your EFT or any other subtle healing modality you have to offer. What is important is that there is an exchange of energy. I am qualified in several therapies and very often it is those who cannot afford it who probably need it more than others. In cases such as these I always ensure that there is an exchange of energy in some way – they do something for me, make me a cake or whatever is appropriate. By doing this you avoid the build up of ‘gratitude’ and the ensuing ‘guilt’ than can arise in the client if there is no exchange. A very wise friend of mine told me when I first qualified – and we were discussing this issue – and I quote: ‘I tell people that they are paying for the investment I have made in my training in order to be able to offer them the skill – not for the skill itself’ This puts a different perspective on things and can help redress the balance and open the way for a monetary exchange. I do however, think it is up to the therapist to decide how things should be. Obviously if there are very strong blocks then it is up to us to work through them and EFT is an amazing tool and we are all much the richer – on many levels – because of it.

Huge hornets nest. and so interesting that so many of us in the healing field even after years of doing much personal growth work are still stuck on the same old question To charge or not to charge?? And am I really worth it? and There’s not enough people out there for me to charge that kind of money?
and yet we are all quite willing to go to yet another seminar or buy another book or download something of the internet to further increas our skills because we love it!! Its just that deep (maybe even deep deep down) we still don’t quite feel that we are good enough….. to get the clients …..or keep the clients……. or charge what we are really worth……..or be really successful. Guess what we are !!
I’ve done the Journey training and Reiki and had lots of awesome life experience and learnt TFT and bought all the EFT dvd’s and have a library most people envy. I have also dabbled , dipped my toes into being who I really want to be and then I get scared and buy all the bullshit…The economy is taking a dip no one will pay for your services….. we live in to small atown/country to have enough people willing to pay for that etc etc We’ve heard it all before and believed it. 112. Hello Nick,

I know people have to charge for their services to be able to sustain themselves and as in your case to recuperate the money you invested to offer these products.
However in my case I don’t have any money at all which is the reason I came into this area to see if anything could improve but I have limited myself to what is available free, I am 73 Years old, the only income I have is my social security check to pay all my expenses it was a bit better with my wife’s check but sadly she died last April.
I have not worked since 2002 as I was dedicated to care for my wife sick with cancer I am looking for work now to help my finances and try to keep busy but my age is not helping.
So I’ve been trying the tapping for several weeks but may be doing it wrong but again I can not afford to buy anything, I paid $39.00 for an Astrology report that told me I was going to get a job in late December to the end of January and I am still waiting for something there.
So as far as you charging for your product I think is the way to recuperate your investments.
I am sorry but I do not have the money to spend as I am going into my 401K every month for as long as I am able hoping that something happens before I run out of funds.
    Cheers!

  113. Boy, has this opened up a can of worms! Having worked for CAmerica for 20 years before going out on my own, I have been able to look at this from a couple of different viewpoints as have most people. First of all, whoever said that it was SPIRITUAL to be broke! In the case of those in the alternative ‘healing’ fields, it is probably more imperative that they be happy, healthy, and whole enough to be a clear channel and have access to more of their higher power in order to be most effective working with clients – and how can they be that if they are operating through the lens of being BROKE! And whoever said that all of the money that one spends on training in ANY field does not qualify that person to present themselves to the public as a ‘professional’ (when they internally feel they are ready) and be compensated for their services! Personally I love paying for alternative services – it is my primary health care once I discern the practitioners I wish to have work with me. (And I have been tapping for about 10 years and am a Reiki master.) As with anything else, there is no guarantee of success. I have never met a doctor (md) who guarantees he will cure you! And because alternative therapy depends totally on the emotional mindset of the client, it is ludicrous to believe for an instant that any practitioner is able to identify ALL of the limiting beliefs, desires, etc., etc. that form the basis of most client issues and be able to resolve them in one or two sessions (remember the onion) – but does that mean that the practitioner should not be paid for what they are able to accomplish with any client? The most effective alternative therapy is often times the most subtle and does not show itself for a period of time so that unfortunately a client can say that the treatment was not effective but a month down the road they are a completely different person because of the work.

I also agree that self worth is a huge if not the biggest issue here! If you do not feel that you should be paid for your services then maybe you should just pursue it as a ‘hobby’ and not clutter the field so that the ‘professionals’ have a more difficult time dealing with the environment the hobbiests have helped create!

All of that being said, yes there are a lot of people right now who do not have the financial means to pay for all services and I believe it is up to the discretion of the professional practitioners who and how they wish to work with some of these people. I have been in situations where I could not afford to pay for someone’s services which I really felt I would benefit from and we have always found a way for there to be an equitable exchange.

So I think that its really time to get off the pot on some of this stuff! The reason the issue exists at all is because of the Marys’ out there who can’t seem to make up their mind or deal with their own issues!

  114. It’s odd that some people feel uncomfortable charging for helping & healing. Perhaps that’s just because Meridian Tapping is still an unfamiliar modality to many people. Other professionals in the healing arts usually get paid for their services: physical therapists, physicians & surgeons, acupuncturists, dentists, chiropractors, nurse-midwives, etc. As Meridian Tapping becomes better known (because there will become more practitioners of it), expecting & receiving payment will become the norm. Maybe the “Marys” don’t recognize that paid work can be something one does enjoy doing, not just a tiresome chore to chase a paycheck.

  115. Nick, I totally understand where you are coming from – I mean, doctors also charge money so why can’t eft practitioners if they want to? EFT is a respectable venture that has helped many. I also appreciate how much EFT folks donate and actually give things away for free – like you do with needy people and organizations. On the internet there are a multitude of EFT resources like MP3 files, PDF documents, EFT scripts, websites that give out so much meridian tapping help and techniques. Although I have purchased many excellent EFT products (like the Tappers Insiders Club or Carol Look’s stuff) to download into my Ipod, I have also amassed a lot of free and excellent EFT podacsts and guided tapping sessions for free! Even on YouTube!

However, what I don’t like is the emergence of the quick sell sometimes even spam like marketing that a growing number of not so ethical and questionable EFT practitioners are peddling via emails or websites. It really cheapens the discipline of EFT (Gary Craig’s vision) – many of these folks I think come from the “Secret” camp and their nebulous claims of the Universe as a shopping catalog, get rich quick scenes, are kind of resembling the crooked snake oil sellers of old!

These “secret” people are pushing practices which many of us are still trying to figure out what the real “secret” really is!

So, yes please be respectable and ethical (and you guys are – so is Carol Look and all the fine folks you feature on the Tappers Insiders Club) but please be aware that the “Secret” camp is out there just to promise and to confuse and for them to get as rich as they can as fast as they can.

Gratitude is the most important thing – that is what I would tell newbies – don’t buy into Secret spam marketing attitude- do tapping like you have taught us here.

The other important thing is raising ones vibration towards the positive -once you know these 2 things then you will know the “secret” – use tapping to to do this.

Thanks for what you and all the positive people that you and Jessica have introduced to us.

  116. Nick, you can be absolutely certain that anyone who criticizes you for charging for what you do has at least one but probably many counter-intentions or negative beliefs about money. If you want to challenge the money critics directly, then simply ask them whether they will do whatever paid work they do for no money or for some minimal amount that YOU will dictate. I suspect that every single one of them will say, “No!” But I recommend that you simply ignore the money critics. By the way, I had vacillated for a few weeks about ordering a copy of The Tapping Solution, but I just ordered one because of this blog post!

  117. my personal thought on this is yes you should charge for a service, I have looked at many ways of working from home over the years & learnt some harsh lessons on being conned. So if they can ask for say $25 for providing a “database of work opportunities” when in reality they just give you a list of websites. If you provide something that is of value & with tapping I say a very definate YES. Why shouldn’t you charge for it ?? if I invested the kind of money you have I would want to get it back unless of course money is of no importance in which case you either have enough money already or dont need it.

The only downside to charging such a high rate means a lot of the poor people in the world miss out. But then there are ways of getting a watered down version of this information which I find pretty useful. Your Tapping world summit is free & very useful so that covers us for the time being.

Anyway I would much rather see you get rich & happy than the likes or the Royal Bank of Scotland in the UK who seem to think its ok to charge customers fees for going overdrawn but when they were billions of pounds in debt the UK tax payers had to bail them out & now their workers get big bonuses.

This is the very reason why I am glad that thanks to your summit I don’t worry about money anymore & realise there are more important things in life like my family’s love & affection.

Best of luck in the future Nick :)

thanks to you & Dax Moy for turning my life around

    regards
